Another Tóibín Tour De Force
Tóibín is a wonderful writer, his non-fiction being just as impressive as his more famous fictional works. This book is worth the price just for the essay on Colm’s cancer diagnosis, where we see his insight, his humour and his powers of description. I loved the section where he considered entering into negotiations with the Pope - on a visit to Dublin - so that he can attend a hospital appointment on the other side of a gridlocked city. Highly recommended.

It was a present, ordered and delivered on time
As a present I have not read the book, but the receiver was well pleased

A riveting book, full of personal insights and anecdotes.
I learned a lot about Irish culture, mores, attitudes to sexuality and the influence of the RC Church. I also found the book to be moving and insightful about so many issues affecting life in general as well as Toibin's own personal experiences. I really enjoyed this book and it made me appreciate Colm Toibin's writings even more than before (and I've always been a fan ).
