PROETRADE Merino Wool Socks — Warm, Cozy, But Not Perfect
I’ve been wearing these PROETRADE merino wool socks for a few weeks (on hikes, daily walks, around the house), and here's how they’ve held up in real life — the good, the “hmm,” and whether I’d buy again. --- ✅ What I Liked / Strengths Warmth + thermal comfort These socks do a good job of keeping your feet warm in chilly weather. On cold morning walks, my toes stayed more comfortable than with my regular cotton socks. Moisture / sweat control Because of the merino-blend design (often ~70% wool + synthetic + elastane) they handle moisture decently — my feet didn’t feel soggy after moderate exertion. (ProEtrade’s product pages mention this hybrid blend. ) Soft feel & comfort The fabric is fairly soft against skin (especially at first). No immediate itching or scratchiness (which is good — some wool socks are too harsh). Others reporting their experience say it’s “so much warmer” than typical athletic socks. Thick / cushioned build (for cold / hiking use) The extra thickness adds padding and comfort, particularly when worn with boots. It doesn’t feel thin or overly delicate. Unisex / multiple uses Because they are marketed for both men & women, I appreciate the versatility. Also they are marketed as “thermal / winter / thick hiking” options. --- ⚠️ What I Didn’t Like / Weaknesses / What to Watch Out For Bulk / heat trade-off They’re fairly thick, so in warm weather or in indoor environments they can feel a bit too warm or less breathable. Fit / sizing issues Some spots (heel, toe) feel slightly loose or have minor slipping, especially after wear. The cushion or thickness sometimes makes precise fit a bit more challenging in tighter shoes. Durability concerns After moderate use, I noticed slight pilling on the surface or fuzziness in areas of frequent friction (like the toe box). Over more time, I worry about thinning at high-wear zones. Washing & care needed To preserve merino properties, gentle washing is important. Hot wash or aggressive drying might shrink or damage them faster. (This is common for merino blends.) Not “magic odor stopper” in heavy use While they do better than cotton, in very sweaty or extreme exertion, odor / moisture build-up will still happen. Though merino helps, it doesn’t guarantee zero smell after long, heavy activity. --- 🧾 My Sock Story I wore them on a 3-hour hike with boots and light rain. At mid-hike, I paused: toes were warm, not freezing, and the socks felt comfortable. After returning, walking indoors with shoes still on, they felt a little warm but not unbearably so. On day 5 of wear (not washing daily), there was slight smell / dampness — not terrible, but noticeable compared to pristine start. After a few washes (cold, gentle cycle), I saw minor pilling on the top of the foot area. The heel had a bit of extra fuzz. One day in tight sneakers, the thickness made squeezing in more tight — I had to adjust them to avoid pressure on toes.

As sold, great quality
Fast dispatch, good quality, these socks are some of the best I have bought, they are cool in the summer, warm in the winter, wick sweat away and great for work, hiking, fell walking boots. To maintain these qualities I have only ever hand washed these socks in nikwax wool wash, and air dried them. Old American saying "you can only hardwash good worksocks once after that they bite you back, treat them with respect and they will respect you back" These socks have respected me back! (Other products are available to clean condition and deodourise wool products) Whichever you choose I am sure these socks will appreciate the care and repay you with years of wear. Good product, good price

Want to avoid blisters? Use these.
Bought these for my friends daughters new job involving being on her feet and walking all day in steel capped safety boots for 40 hours a week. Being 100% wool they prevent blisters and are very comfortable, she can't thank me enough for them. I use them wearing boots to keep my feet blister free and comfortable. I used to hike so these are best for that. They are nice and thick and the quality is very good and fit her perfectly. They will last a long time which is very good value compared to synthetic socks and don't last as long and I prefer wool socks as they allow your feet to breathe.

Warm, Comfortable and soft.
Bought these for a trip to Iceland and the fact that I live in Ireland which is cold and wet all the time anyway. Exceeded my expectations! The socks were easily the most comfortable socks I've ever had! They were so amazing I had to write a review. I will absolutely be buying more of these! I'm not affiliated with the sellers or manufacturer. Honest review. They really were amazing just to walk in without footwear.

I had bought a pair of the Merino wool socks from Cabelas. They were pretty darn comfy and kept my feet really warm. So I thought I would try some more and ordered these. They are better then the redhead socks I previously purchased. They keep my feet warm and dry and are comfortable. I have had the four pair for several months and are standing up really well. In fact these are my favourite socks. A little to warm for summer use in my opinion but I have wore them in a pinch in mid 20’s and they weren’t uncomfortable. The sock fits well on the calf and doesn’t slide down at all. Over-all I would purchase again!
