i knew it wouldn’t end with a happy ever after, okay. i KNEW. put the pain it caused, i was not ready. my oh my. (spoilers at the very end of review)firstly, powerless had every trope you could want and the book had the trope in it, the book wasn’t written around the trope which was so refreshing. it was the absolute perfect book to bring me back to my fantasy roots. kai and paedyn’s dynamic is one of my favourites ever. i loved how they understood eachother, i ADOREEDDDDD their banter, i loved the longing and pull they had. i just get giddy when I think about them.the trial elements were so much fun. it didn’t feel rushed or forced, the pace was really good and i LOVED it.kai was something else man 😮‍💨 the words coming out of this man’s mouth had me SWOONING. his backstory is so tragic and what he’s been forced into is horrifying and i am just going to hate what is to come 💔 pae was incredible. i love her so much. she was such a feisty character with such a big heart. she saw kai, she loves him and OH I JUST WANT TO SCREAM. their tension was phenomenal, the tend to wound scenes (BOTH TENDING TK EACHOTHER 😩), THE DANCING SCENES OH MYYYY. the knife to throats, the fact that he knew her capabilities and gave ‘that’s my girl’ vibes rather than forcing her to protection. I’m utterly obsessed with them. my heart ACHES.spoilersTHE FACT THAT SHE BETRAYED HIM. HE WAS STANDING IN THE POURING RAIN OVER HIS DEAD FATHERS BODY AND GAVE HER A HEAD START BEFORE HE HUNTS HER DOWN. THE MIRRORING OF THEM KILLING THE OTHERS PARENTS. THE FACT KITT IS GOING TO TURN INTO A MANIC AND PROBABLY DESTROY HIS RELATIONSHIP WITH KAI. the scene when he refers to Kai as his ‘enforcer’ made me sick. their tender, soft, precious, funny, gentle moments are gone and they, oh my 😭 the angst is going to kill me in reckless

The FMC was a typical badass and the MMC was obsessed from day one. His dialogue is much better than hers and lots of swoon worthy moments.3 trails that I got deja vu from and an epic ending that had me gripped more than most of the book. Still a very good story when I will continue the series.

If you love the hunger games - you’ll love this!My First Fantasy Read! This book was a solid 5 stars! It was my first fantasy read so was unsure what to expect. But holy grail, this book got me on board the fantasy hype! I binged this book and Reckless!I was a little confused to begin with (think it was because I’d never read a fantasy before and now I know I sometimes find the world building a little hard and knowing all the different characters) but once it clicked, it clicked! I could not put this book down! Lauren, your writing is incredible and the plot start to finish was chefs kiss! I am blooming obsessed with Kai. 100% a book boyfriend for sure.Powerless is the kind of book where you will sit down to read but not realise how much time has passed from being so engrossed within the book and story. Your mind literally switches off and only focuses on this book!I cannot wait for Fearless!!!

I hadn’t read any previous books by Lauren Roberts so I had an open mind when starting this series. The reviews I had read seemed a bit mixed but I purchased the book when I saw it drop to 99p on Kindle.The main character is Paedyn, an 18-year-old orphan, who has been left to fend for herself and works as a pickpocket on the streets of Ilya, after her father's brutal murder. Ilya is a kingdom ruled by a king who wants only the magical Elites to have a place and the powerless Ordinaries to be eradicated. Paedyn is a secret Ordinary and she manages to pass herself off as a Psychic using her powers of observation. Paedyn ends up being entered into the annual Purging Trials where she is forced to compete against a group of Elites, all with their own deadly magical abilities. She makes an unlikely alliance and we see her using her skills to fight to survive the trials and bring down the tyrannical king.This book was not very original, I got vibes from a combination of many other books but it was easy to read and kept me interested. The characters were good and the pace and storyline was interesting, maybe a bit predictable.The world building was something I wish we had more of but I really enjoyed learning about the different powers the Elites have and how they can be used and what their weaknesses are.Overall, a good introduction into a new series, it wasn’t amazing but it was interesting enough to make me read the rest of the series at some point.
