These are much nicer/better than I expected for the price! You can't "see" through them, per se, but you can tell whether it is day or night. When closed, my room is still dark during the day, which is good. I wouldn't want total blackout in the room. I live in southern FL and they definitely make a difference blocking heat, also. If I open the curtains to look out, can feel the heat between the floor to ceiling windows and the back of the curtain, yet the room is not heated up at all. I really think they make a different in my electric bill!. Definitely would recommend, unless you do want a total blackout in your room. The thermal backing is not that super-rubbery feeling type; not easy to tell they are thermal lined. No "odd" odor to the materials, either. The window is 48-in. wide, so I tried using just one panel, but the grommet style does "shorten" the width a bit at the top, so the panel didn't touch both sidewalls of the window because of the way it made the panel hang. I bought a second one and am very happy I did. They are perfect, and the extra width made it so I could extend the rod out 6 in. from the window on both side, and that really helps block the light and heat! I have other style thermals in another room that I am not as happy with. I wish I had found these first (I looked a long time before buying either style). Highly recommend!

These curtains are pretty great! They're good quality material and definitely block out the light. I gave it 4 stars because I ordered the 52 x 84 but received the 52 x 63 instead. Coincidentally, this size worked perfectly in our living room, so I kept them! Only problem is that I need one more panel and the 52 x 63 are out of stock, so maybe I'll order the 52 x 84 and hope they send me the wrong size again!

These are excellent curtains.The extent of the blackout ability will depend largely on three factors: 1) the gaps from the pleating when closed, 2) the curtain rod's distance from the wall, and 3) the nature of the incoming light (angle, intensity, etc.)Addressing #1 is simple: be sure the curtains are as flat as possible when closed by hanging them such that there is little slack/pleating or take up the slack at the sides. The catch with this comes into play with #2: the closer the rod to the wall, the less light can leak above and below regardless of pleats (or lack thereof.) As for #3, unless you have a lot of control over the light source, this is just going to be something important to keep in mind before you blame the curtain.In my case, I have 2 of these hung on a southeast facing window which will get early through mid-morning sun plus a bright overhead outdoor light that does not turn off all night (it's over a covered second story deck with shared entrances to apartments.) So while it does a relatively excellent job to significantly dim the morning sunlight—along with the cheap mini-blinds—the position and intensity of the overhead light makes the effectiveness seemingly diminish in comparison.

These curtains are great, espically for the price. They are true black out. The inbuilt rings allow for them to slide easily along the pole (unlike a tab top pair that I tried earlier) They also stack compactly alowing for maximum light when opened. My only deduction of one star is that they are made of a rather shiny material which I think looks a little cheap and would have preferred a more Matt cotton type finish.

These curtains are GREAT!, they really do block almost ALL of the light coming in during the day time (im a 3rd shifter so I sleep while the sun is out) and these curtains do make it very dark in the room, a little bit of light does come out of the top of the curtains, but not enough to make it bright in the room in any way, they also do a good job of blocking the heat in the summer, one of my windows faces a very sunny spot and you can put you hand in between the curtain and feel all the heat they are holding back, same in the cooler weather as well, overall these curtains work very well blocking light and weather, and they look really nice to, I bought about 8 of these total and feel like it was well worth it!! They also arrive really quickly and had very good packaging

I found that these deep navy curtains matched my bedroom trim perfectly. They are actually considerably darker than the internet photo shows, but that worked well in my case since my Behr paint trim is the same darker navy. I like the ease of opening and closing these on their grommets. They look best on thicker curtain rods. I have one set in my walk in closet that hangs on a small brass rod which works well but isn't quite as attractive as the three sets in my 3 double hung windows in my main bedroom which are hung on larger rods (I would recommend 1" to 2" size). There are tie backs included with easy to use thread loops on each end. I don't use these, but only because I like the straight hanging look -- drawn back or fully covering the windows.

I LOVE these blackout curtains! We've bought some from another company and they ended up having an odor (should have listened to the reviews, but they seemed mixed) that I could never get out and that got worse as the summer got hotter. These curtains fall well, do a great job of blocking out light and heat, and (best of all), no smell!! We are planning on doing the wholel house in them, even the windows that don't get direct sunlight. Here in Florida, you just NEED them, and that's all there is to it. Blinds won't do it alone. They are priced extremely well for the quality of the drape. I really am happy with the color also, which was true to picture.

These Blackout curtains more than live up to their name. When I woke up in the morning I swear I thought it was still nighttime, and that's saying alot since I live in Las Vegas and the sun is so bright. I bought a pair for all of my bedrooms and told my daughter-in-law to get some for her bedroom too, I mean the room is totally black at 9 in the morning. They keep the room cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter. Yes it does get cold in Las Vegas. If you need to sleep in the daytime these are the blackout curtains you want. Can't say enough good things about them. Highly recommend.
