Large Micro SD Cards slow Boot - max size 23gb - good for podcasting
Overall for the price point its good. I almost went with 4 stars, but its working excellent and a lot better than an old school micro-cassette recorder of the past. Price point is very attractive. LOL....The user interface is very dated, but works. And lets face it if you are using a voice recorder like this you might want this old school interface. They could still clean up the old interface better and make it easier to use, but it works. The manual is of no help.If you use a microSD card, the max supported size is 32gb, which believe it or not are getting harder to find. The biggest issue is that with a 32gb brand name card boot times are like 20 seconds. 20 seconds before you can hit the record button and get the idea out of your head. I found a 8gb brand name card and that boot time is 8.4 seconds. Better. But if you use the internal storage the boot time is only 4 seconds.... 8 gig is plenty of storage, but I still don't like waiting that extra 4 seconds....Audio quality off the built in mics is surprisingly good as is using an even better external mic. I think you could get good enough podcast quality in mp3 128 stereo mode using an external mic. Which means you wouldn't need to go to a wireless mic solution for audio and these are super cheap to have multiple units recording, lets say two or three people with each person on their own recorder and mic wired up to them. The built in mics would not be quite good enough IMHO for a podcast, but you can get it out of an external mic. (see my hold notes below)Duping from a cell phone to the unit works and they have a mode for it. However if you have high quality coming out of your cellphone into this unit (music) its not very good once recorded. I'm speculating some sort of DRM or A/D converter issue. But if you had a conversation from a cassette tape to this, that works excellent.Battery life is excellent.Manual stinks. Lots of trial and error..Here is a useful feature: If you start a recording and use the power off switch, thats also a hold feature, witch makes it so that you can't accidentally press any buttons and interfere with the recording. That's a great feature that isn't documented, but if you were putting this recorder on someone in their pocket with a mic, then you would do this so that it doesn't accidentally stop recording.

My favorite digital recorder
I have used digital recorders for my nursing job and this is my favorite. Simple to use and upload to my computer with the retractable USB. Would buy again for sure.

Old School And Better Than Anything New
Easy to use. convenient to carry. downloads are simple. I bought several modern types but this is old school and sometimes its beat to stick with things we know

Language - no option to use English
I've had Olympus before, but this is the exact thing, right?Turned it on & it was China style words/font & no options for English.I returned it & now I'll buy the brand, Olympus.I'm not the only person who had an issue .... "stuck in a different language format and unable to program to English"

Bad speaker, needs back lit on the display
Horrible don't buy, safe your money for something better. The speakers are cheap and very low with max volume, there is not a back lit on this device at all. I recorded music next to my phone, and replay it back on this device's speaker and I could barely hear anything out of it with max volume, and it sounded very low quality speaker. The only good was the kickstand, and large screen with large capacity memory, and many features of files. Returned and ask for refund and got jacked for my refund! From Amazon or the bank!
