This book got my teenagers talking about science over dinner!
I bought a copy of this and left it on the kitchen table hoping my teenagers might be curious - and the book was soon gone. I found both of them reading it over the next few weeks. The mix of illustrations and text really engaged them and made genetics really accessible to them. They showed me sections of the book, read bits out to me and I was blown away by how it made them think about science. The whole family now know who Luca was, and I've learnt loads from asking them to explain it to me! This is a fantastic way to bring science to life for teenagers (and obviously for curious adults who may need to brush up on the details!) Thank you and looking forward to the next one to be published; Christmas list sorted already.

Engaging science for all the family!
My daughter loves these books. I enjoy them too! The Gene takes you through everything you need to know about what makes life life and all the incredible things we can learn from gene science. It’s fascinating stuff, brilliantly told. We’ve read it again and again.

Informative and great for all ages
I am always looking for books that I can read the kids (9&5) that don’t bore me - these ones have been amazing! We got them to take on holiday for getting them to sleep - I thought nothing like science for them to nod off to - but they loved them and wanted them in the day as well and the 9 y/o was reading them alone to himself. Easy language - loved learning so much about genetics with illustrations to make it even clearer and more amusing. A great buy for any age. Can imagine they will last us until A level!

Engaging and interesting
I'm a British librarian who won a copy of this book in a British prize draw. It can be quite tricky to find science books that are informative and also grab a young reader's interest and imagination, but this book manages it. The book explains what genes are and even touches on gene editing. The illustrations are also engaging. I think it's definitely aimed at secondary school aged children.
