I wish I had this book as a young professional. I could have avoided so many mistakes. As I read it, it struck me that what she talks about is so true, but nobody has ever written about something so clearly and honestly that I know of. You can tell that she has been through real life and traveled through her own career journey, and understands what she is talking about. Her insight into how the workplace works is so spot on! She tells great stories that really bring the points home as well with a very unique and fun reading style.I especially loved the 5 Stages of Career Growth. She spends several chapters talking about the skillsets that you need at each stage of your career and how they need to evolve for one to be successful at the next stage. I've never seen anyone else capture it like this and I found it so useful, even as a senior executive who has learned many of the professional lessons the harder way.I also liked her chapters on Promotability and Power---I want every single one of my department members to take in what she outlines as a plan for how to grow your influence in an organization. It is actionable with great checklists and case studies and even scripts to draw upon to guide you through.Great read for anyone working through a career--but especially relevant for Directors and below.

So I bought this book for my mom who's been struggling with an employer who doesn't appreciate all she brings to the table and makes here jump through unnecessary hoops. My mother has been with the company for 10+ years and she was just frankly getting burnt out. She asked me for a book on how she could push her career forward and find a way to communicate more effectively with her boss. After reading just the first half of the book, my mom called me to tell me how much she LOVED this book and how it's already making a difference in her life. She loves it so much she's giving it to my sister next so my sister can make sure she's also not being taken advantage of any longer in her workplace. A big thank you to the author!

I loved the tricks for talking about conflict at work. It helped me address some problems with my manager and it went better than I expected.I was trying to decide if I was going to stay or go. I wanted to change jobs and I read the chapter on “Should I Stay or Should I Go” and chose to work through my problems and reinvent myself. She helped me see all of the options in a new light.This is a perfect book for my college kids to enter the workforce.This book is easy to read because it is not a one time read through book, it is a pick your chapter that applies to you and run with it!

I've been following Tessa on TikTok and through her podcast and learning so much. This book takes her advice from those platforms to the next level. She logically lays out the five stages of growth we all experience in a corporate setting and details out what success looks like in each stage. The frameworks resonate and are easy to follow. I've started to share the frameworks with my own team. Tessa also confirms many lies and truths about working in a corporate environment that help you gain confidence to take control of your career success! I would highly recommend this book to folks at every stage in their career!
