Naughty but nice.
My 8 year old daughter did a school show of the Cinderella rhyme in this book and raved about it the whole time. That it was ''soooooooooooo funny'' and we had to get the book so she could read the other Dahl original takes on fairytales.I grew up not even knowing he had tackled fairytales and given them the Dahl treatment. A mis-spent youth perhaps! My daughter whizzed through the book, it isn't long and it didn't disappoint.Old fashioned 'horridness' for todays young. If you or yours, like mine, enjoy books with humour, silliness and that are more than a bit naughty then it could be for you.

Hilariously Gross!
I bought this book for my 9 and 7 year old girls, as I have fantastic memories of this book as a child. I will always remember the look of shock on my Mum's face, as we read that Little Red Riding Hood "whipped a pistol from her knickers".This book is very, very funny, and hilariously gross, something which appeals to all children. All rhymes are fairy tales which have been retold in a gruesome and funny way.Sensitive readers may wish to know that this book does contain the word "slut", something I felt should be censored from my children!

I loved it as a child and I still love it today!
I had a copy of this book when I was a child and I loved it. I would learn the poems off by heart and recite them to anyone who would listen. Now, 25 years on, I have just bought another copy for the next generation of family and have been lost in reading through the poems again. Roald Dahl has an extraordinary talent of writing so that both adults and children can enjoy his books and you can find something in these poems for everyone. I would highly recommend Revolting Rhymes for anyone with an imagination to cultivate!

I love love love these poems!
I read thee when I was young and have just bought them for my daughter (4yo) for our bedtime reading. She thinks they are hilarious - I mean who ever thought that Red Riding Hood kept her pistol in her knickers?! Or that Goldilocks was a disgusting little brat with dog poo on her shoes that she smeared all over the beds of the three bears? These fantastic poems will appeal to all children everywhere.

A new, twisted, look at favourite fairytales
This is a brilliant book. A selection of fairy tales with a twist. We loved Goldilocks and Jack & the Beanstalk. The tales are written as rhymes, which quite frankly is a work of genius.I read these as a kid, now I am reading them to my children, and they hold up perfectly.

Great books, but Amazon's packaging had come unsealed.
My six year old (nearly 7) is delighted with the books, and is enjoying reading James and The Giant Peach herself, as am I when she asks me to read it to her. Pity about the poor packaging, though. No damage done, fortunately, but the cardboard envelope wasn't up to the job and had clearly come unsealed in transit.

My kids love it
I think a great thing about Roald Dahl is that he doesn't shy away from dark topics and kids seem to love him for it. My kids (4 & 7) have been learning about traditional tales in school - with the older one experimenting with different versions and endings etc - and this funny mix up has supported that and captured their imagination. I loved Roald Dahl as a kid (even though I didn't like reading much) and his magic seems to work still 30 years later.

Amazing for old and new readers alike!
Growing up in North London meant nothing without Roald Dahl, including rushing home for the revolting rhymes shown on TV after school! His revolting rhymes and dirty beasts collections are an absolute pleasure to read - have to be read out loud though for more enjoyment! And Quentin Blake's amazing illustrations just bring this piece to life. An absolute must for old and new readers alike!

Pure Roal Dahl magic
If you've got a slightly dark sense of humor and a love for unadulterated Dahl's work you will love this book. These rhymes are hilarious versions of the fairy tales we all love, but those who are expecting rainbows and unicorns will be appalled. Example: in Cinderella's tale one of the ugly sisters is beheaded and that's just for starters.I however love this book and always have. Even as a child it made me laugh. I loved it. Got it again as a birthday treat to myself because my old copy is in terrible condition. But when I was a kid I read everything and anything so I am not a good example. If you're thinking about getting the Rhymes for a kid maybe check it out before you make a present of it. Some kids may be "traumatized" and some parents may be offended. Baffles me but that's people for you. However I can't recommend it enough to those who just love a good laugh. Especially if you can appreciate beautiful poetry too. The original illustrations typical of Dahl's work are another delight of this edition too.Wonderful Roal Dahl.
