iZombie: The Complete Third Season (DVD)

Great writing and a strong cast add up to another excellent season
This is not the most high-tech show about the undead.By that I mean "iZombie" does not rely on startling special effects to tell its stories. Instead, it relies on really good writing, a strong cast, and - with a couple of rare exceptions - smooth editing. That, frankly, is how it should be.In this third season of what is a highly entertaining series, the writers have twisted story lines into pretzel shapes without - and this is important - making them unbelievable. For example: A former villain loses his memory and becomes - at least on the surface - a good guy. The reason: He simply does not remember how evil he once was, or why he was driven to such heinous acts in the past. Significantly, he then falls in love and later confesses that, in fact, his memory has returned. He knows he was once a very bad man but he wants to continue being a good one.Why does he do this? Because he's in love with someone who is fundamentally decent and that leads him to "do the right thing" and confess. What happens next is also believable but it's not my intention to spoil the viewing experience so if you want to know, you'll have to watch the series. My point is that rather than deliver shallow scripts that are overloaded with CGI, the writers and producers of this series have given us believable characters - hard to do given the genre - and, just as importantly, given us reasons to invest in them. There were some glitchy editing issues in this season, however, that very nearly caused me to downgrade it from 5 stars to 4. These involved the death of a secondary character. Normally, that might not matter so much but in this case that death plays a pivotal role in the story arc. In the editing process, however, important scenes about her life and death are cut and that makes one of the succeeding episodes difficult to follow.Annoying?Certainly.But not so annoying that I felt the need to downgrade the entire season. The result: 5 stars.

Another good season
+++Warning, this will contain spoilers from the prior seasons, but no major giveaways from season 3 ++++The third season picks up right after the end of the second season finale where the soldiers entered to clean up the mess of the Max Rager party turned zombie fest. In the first episode, we learn that they are a part of a Zombie led organization called Fillmore-Graves, which is preparing for the day when humans en-mass learn of the existence of zombies. For the main characters, the season is really about the fall out from the past season's events, especially now that the entire group knows the truth. Major deals with the fallout from the revelation that he is the "chaos killer", Blaine has to deal with being human again and attempting to start over, Ravi is working toward perfecting the cure, and for Liv (and really all the other characters) the season is really about taking a side in the humans vs zombies confrontation. As is the case with the prior seasons, the show is mainly a case-of-the-week serial, with larger story arcs which play throughout. The big one is the humans becoming more and more aware of the existence of zombies, told through a group of conspiracy wingnuts. As is also the norm Liv takes on a range of personalities (again brilliantly done by Rose McIver), and the show alternates between funny, sad, dramatic, all on a dime. The writing and acting are all top-notch, and the show manages to pack a lot into a limited amount of episodes. For those who get the blu-rays, they are the Warner Archive MOD discs. They do, unlike a lot of other MOD sets include closed captions and some extras. Those consist of deleted scenes for select episodes and about 30 min worth of the comic-con panel discussion with some of the cast and writers. Not a ton of extras, but good for what is there.

I don't like zombie tv shows
I resisted starting iZombie to begin with because as a rule, I don't like zombie tv shows, movies, comics or anything with zombies. But, when I found out it was produced by the same director who did Buffy, I broke down and watch a couple of episodes. Oops, did I say couple? I binged watched the first two seasons three times in under two weeks. The third season is my favorite; there's one episode...OK no spoilers. In fact, it's become my number one show this season; topping Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Supergirl and the Flash. Season three is a must see; even if you haven't seen the first two seasons.

I'll give a shot to pretty much anything featuring a blonde woman in a leather ...
I'm a big fan. As a long-time lover of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, I'll give a shot to pretty much anything featuring a blonde woman in a leather jacket who fights the forces of evil, but this show really delivers. Strong cast, strong writing, really funny. Nothing like the comic but that sort of just means you don't know what's coming next.

WOW! Fantastic!
This is the first Zombie related film/series that I have EVER watched since 'Night of the Living Dead' when I was a child 50 years ago. I caught an episode of this season on cable TV and was hooked. I found the first 2 seasons on Netflix, then bought Season 3 on Amazon Prime. This is a great premise. The actors are very talented. The video production, scripts and direction are all top-notch. Rose McIver is EXTREMELY talented and ADORABLE! Her character's mood, language and mannerisms change each episode. She is such a wonder to behold.

Top five Zombie show, or movie, ever
Gets better with time. Such dry humour, you'd think it's British. I've never read a comic book, but this makes me want to. I'll pretend I'm buying the zombie comics for my granddaughter. That's cool..right?

An always entertaining show.
What is best about the show is the lead actress and her ability to play so many personalities while never losing her original character's own traits. So much fun to watch. Then you add great supporting characters and quirky dialogue and you have the making of some great entertainment. Its too bad the season is only 13 episodes long. A full 22 should have been ordered. Now if they can hurry up and release the next two seasons on blu-ray, all will be perfect.

Zombies Rule !
Okay - this is more a `who done it' or comedy revue - but does have horror moments. I have found it to be most enjoyable.

Sehr gute Zombie Serie!
Tolle Serie!
