STAR WARS: DARTH MAUL - SON OF DATHOMIR [NEW PRINTING]

Last Days of The Clone Wars
Before I go into this review I should point out that yes, this comic is a bit open-ended. If you want to see where Maul goes next he does show up in Disney's Star Wars Rebels cartoon. That being said, this collection is actually a reprinting by Marvel of a comic originally published by Dark Horse, the previous license holders for Star Wars comics. The story is adapted from drafts of some unproduced episodes of the Star Wars: The Clone Wars cartoon in production before it's cancellation. The story is all about Darth Maul, as he fights to get revenge on his former Master. But as war rages, does Maul truly have the upper hand? This comic is amazing. Each issue feels like an episode of the show, and it works better for it. Even though it would have been great to see this story in The Clone Wars show, it's still nice to have a comic this good instead. The Clone Wars may be over now, but for many Star Wars fans it's legacy will never be forgotten.5/5

Just a good story
As a guy who has been a fan of Star Wars for a long time, I know it's common for others to believe that any big fan of the franchise would love this comic series no matter what. However, I enjoyed this book because I found it to be a good side story for an interesting character in the franchise. So if you're a fan of the franchise and are trying to expand your knowledge of the character, or just a person who wants to find something good to read, I would recommend reading this series.

Darth Maul with Depth
Darth Maul: Son of Dathomir takes place after the events of episode II (Attack of the Clones) and the subsequent Clone Wars animated series. While some may not realize Darth Maul survived his encounter with Obi-Wan in which he was sliced in half, his recovery was covered somewhat in the Clone Wars animated series which is considered part of the current Star Wars canon. This book is based on some unused scripts from that series and begins with Maul being imprisoned by Emperor Palpatine and his new apprentice, Count Dooku. Dooku and Palpatine torture Maul in order to get information about the criminal network he now controls as well as the location of one of Palpatine's old enemies, Mother Talzin. Talzin is a witch from Dathomir who is not only Maul's mother, but also the person that saved him after his encounter with Kenobi. Palpatine had once allied with Talzin to learn some of her secrets, but eventually turned on her. This book details Maul's rescue from prison by his associates; a major confrontation with Palpatine's forces (headed by Dooku and General Grievous) and a confrontation between Palpatine and his former apprentice. The book was originally published by Dark Horse Comics, which held the rights for Star Wars comics before it reverted back to Marvel. Although Dark Horse published a significant amount of Star Wars comics, most were considered non-canon after Disney bought the Star Wars franchise and re-established a new canon (which includes all of the newly produced Marvel Comics). The sole book Dark Horse published that was still maintained in that new canon is this one. It's fairly obvious to readers of the Marvel books that this one stands out as different -- there's much more depth to the storyline, rather than the de-compressed, quick tales that Marvel now produces.Overall, the book is a solid read and worth the time. It's the first time I've felt that Darth Maul was an interesting character. Marvel created a separate series based on Maul (set prior to the events of the Phantom Menace) that didn't really establish anything to make him more interesting. This book, however, does show more depth to the character making him less one-dimensional. In addition, the artwork by Juan Frigeri and Mauro Vargas is solid (although not as detailed as some of the more recent Marvel books). The collection also includes a couple of cartoonish shorts reprinted from Star Wars Tales -- Hate Leads to Lollipops; Baby Darth Maul Goes to the Dentist; and and untitled Baby Darth Maul short -- as well as a very extensive cover art gallery (including some with the Dark Horse Comics logo).

Finishing the story arc from the clone wars
Star Wars: Darth Maul Son of Dathomir picks up where the clone wars left off. Bridging the gap between Clone Wars and Rebels. You follow Darth Maul who's become a leader of a criminal syndicate. Follow him on his quest of revenge. The comic feels and reads like clone wars lost episodes that were never made. Darth Maul get more character development written very well. The art is well drawn and colored. Reading this made me love Darth Maul as a character. Before he was the guy that looked cool and was brought back from the dead because he looks cool. To one of the more developed star wars characters. Hands down one of the best star wars comics on the market. Couldn't recommend more.

I love comics
I’ve had this on my list for quite some time I decided to go ahead and purchase a couple of them. I’m actually really happy with this and dives a little bit deeper than the show deal about Darth Maul and the crime Lords it’s an awesome book

best Star Wars comic I’ve read so far
Ton of action, alliances, betrayals, violence. The sith lords are out of control in this issue, as they all struggle to be the dominant power in the universe.

Required reading for Star Wars: The Clone Wars fans
It is hard to find this graphic novel but it was worth the hunt. This is required reading if you are watching SW the Clone Wars. Excellent story and artwork. I highly recommend this book.

Pristine condition
Product arrived on time in perfect condition. I’ve only read the first chapter. Very excited to continue. One thing to note which isn’t explicitly stated is that this is a comic book, not a novel.
