Item arrived yesterday. Is it meant to be covered in oil/grease?

Depends what ‘covered in grease’ actually means. The piston spindle should be greased for obvious ease of mechanical use and maintenance. If any more grease is covering the remainder of the article then there may be something wrong with the seal..?? Up to you to decide, my unit was as expected
