Very strong thick wood, brought it as a memorial bench beautiful , looks eye catching in the garden nice deep seat

When we started to put this together, we discovered that the sections which attach the seat to the back if the frame simply did not fit together. The tenons and the slots they fit into are angled, and the angles went the wrong way! We even got hold of a local woodworker, to check we weren't being obtuse, but he confirmed it was a manufacturing defect. We could have sent back for a refund, but this is a heavy item, and we simply couldn't face trying to get it back in packaging securely enough for a carrier to accept. So we got the faulty parts trimmed so that they fitted.We got the bench at the Amazon seller's discounted price of under £180, excluding carriage, but I suspect an element of the discounting is because we didn't just receive the only faulty one of a batch!Having said that, it appears to be very good-quality teak, and the pieces are well-finished. It makes a handsome bench, and will look good in the garden - if you don't mind having to do some adjustment work, and having a couple of joints which have small gaps.

As other reviewers reported - this bench is well constructed and very sturdy. Comes in 5 pieces, very easy to put together. Small crack on underside but friend glued it before constructing... was concerned that the 'Lutchens' wavy details might not survive the delivery process but those parts were intact. Very pleased with the look and feel of it, friends admired the design and strong construction.

The Luytens bench is such a gorgeous style of bench and has been exactly what we've been looking for.

When finished it looked ok, but parts were not accurately cut and considerable adjustment and cutting needed to hold . Instructions could be better.
