Quality
I loved Hornby things as a child some 45-50 years ago, so as dad wanted to play trains again I thought these would be a good bet. They work after a fashion my main gripe is the V part that’s in plastic is about 0.2-0.3mm higher than the rails…….shame on you Hornby……..it makes the trains cut out as it lifts a wheel on the back. I need to remove some of the plastic to try and get it flat…..shame about the quality…..

Not the best
Hit or miss as to whether they operate correctly.Even had one where the spring plate just fell off, spring never to be seen again. This also applies to the R8073.

Easily broken
These were not good value because if they’re powered by a switch via a capacitor discharge unit the point can not handle the resulting pulse that is discharged in the point motor resetting in breakages. This has happened to me on three units out of a total of twelve.

Superb quality at an affordable price!
Full marks to Hornby and the supplier for helping me complete yet another extension to my layout. Died in the wool, overly fussy and snobbish railway modellers as opposed to the more modestly ambitious rest of us model train fans knock Hornby all the time. Why this should be I do not know as their democratising prices and range of accessories prevent this great hobby from being only the domain of the many old farts who think they have it solely for their own enjoyment. If they could only realise it is the average hobbyist who keeps this thing from going under - long live Hornby!
