Excellent replacement for my cheap one.
I had a cheap planer that had all the cables eaten by rodents so it really wasn't safe to use.Doing some research this looked like a good purchase for price and functionality. Actually it is better than I even expected. I have use it so many times, its ability to have an unlimited rebate depth is superb, but the sander component added extra value.A great tool, but it's the little things that make the difference, you can change the side that collects the chippings with ease. The depth is so easy to manage and the little stand at the back is really useful.I love this and it now has a new home in a "clear thick plastic" box. Here's hoping I have stopped the rodents with that.

It is quite a good tool, but my first one broke within 10 minutes as the rebate cover lever and ratchet mechanism is plastic and nowhere near strong enough. The pictures make silver parts look aluminium but they are plastic. It does the job but would not withstand trade use.

Fine planning & accurate + many advantages.
Very Fine planning, rebating done easly. cuts through very rough woods and even the softest wood like pine.I love the grip which is very ergonomic and, the motor is very powerfull yet not so loud.the speed selector is a great advantge.the deep clock is very accurate.another advantage is that you can change the spindle to a sander which turns the planner into a something like belt sander.

Cutters Way
Cool Tool. Not the best photograph. It's a full size; 300 mm long by 160 mm wide device.Electric power planes are great tools for rapidly reducing the thickness of wood when required. Most power planes can't cut rebates. That's where the Triton Unlimited Rebate Plane comes in.The cutting blades are the full width of the sole plate and this along with a rotating flap guard allows an unlimited rebate to be cut. There's a fence supplied which helps with this and it's also well designed and made.[It works]The plane also works well as a straight forward electric plane.I've used it on oak and pine and it produced good cut and reasonable finish in both, providing you watched for grain direction of course. The two handles make for good control of the tool in use.The adjustment knob at the front of the tool is stepped in increments of half a mill and make for controllable depth of cut. There's also a parking mode to protect the blades and work piece / bench when putting the tool down. This is useful as there's no brake on the tool so it's possible to put the tool down with the drum still spinning. In terms of noise it's not much noisier in use than my Bosch plane, but with 750 watts much more powerful. All electric planes produce buckets of shavings, and the Triton comes with a detachable waste bag and a switch selector on the plane allowing the shavings to be diverted right or left depending upon your choice.I've not tried this with an extractor as I don't have one, but the bag works well though it's quite small. For those with extractors, the Triton has a non circular, proprietary shaped looking port. The plane also comes with a sanding drum which can be swapped out with the cutting blade drum for rapid sanding.I have not tried this but it's an interesting concept. You get what looks like an 80 grit drum in the box along with a spanner and a spare belt. The mains plug [which all the Triton items seem to make a big deal about] is UK 3 pin standard which can be easily converted to the European two pin type. Presumably for well travelled chippies. All in all a cool tool, as a rebate planer pretty niche; but if you were thinking of buying an electric planer having the rebate facility and sanding drum is a useful bonus.

Ok for occasional use
The three cutter head makes for a smoother finish, and movable side guard means you can do deep rebating. But that's all this planer really has going for itThe chip extractor hole is very small. Its rectangular and fairly wide, but very narrow. I had to clear out the hole after pretty much every pass. On top of that the bag is very small, so if you're taking 1mm off a door you have to empty after every pass. The motor burnt out on mine after a few months. It was normal use but everyday, but it just couldn't take it. It looks a beast, but I'd put this firmly in the DIY bracket

Very good planer, bad production quality
Well designed machine. You can see it on many details. The bearings for the drum are placed in the middle of the 83 mm wide drum (it's hollow). Initially I was uncertain if the unlimited rebate depth leads to a vibrating drum because of the one side support. But this is definitely not the case.Unfortunately the planer arrived completely wrong adjusted. With the knob for the depth control in the 0-position the front plate was still 0.6 mm higher than the back plate. Luckily it's easy to rectify. Just remove the knob, turn it to the meassured height (in my case 0.6) and secure the know again.Furthermore the blades were completely out of the right setting. You'll get good results if you put a ruler at the back plate and turn the blade drum. Once the blade touches the ruler it schould pull the ruler appr. 2 mm. At my new planer the factory setting was 6 - 8 mm. So I didn't get a fine finish at the first try.But once these settings were made the planer works fantastically. No hassle to take 3 mm. May be the dust extruction gives the limit. Depends on the typ of wood. But with soft wood and 3 mm cut depth the shavings get stuck immediatelly. Not to mention the dust bag...Over all you'll get a lot of planer for that money.
