Beautiful book, lovely photographs, bought for a couple who are hoping to live in France and they loved it.

This was bought as a present for a friend who visits France regularly in order to give her some inspiration for other places she might like to see. It’s a nicely produced book with good colour photos. The book is divided into 20 regions with two ‘best’ villages selected for each region. There’s a map in the front so if you’re planning a visit it’s easy to see quickly which villages are in ‘your’ planned region and read up on them. The only problem I had with it was the fact the copy I received from Amazon was shrink-wrapped. This meant I couldn’t flick through before giving it to see if it was suitable because I didn’t want to risk it being deemed no longer in its original packaging if it turned out she already had a copy and I had to return for a swap. So if you like to flick before you give – you might need to buy elsewhere. Luckily she loved the book.

This is a fantastic book, fine paper, gorgeous photos, good descriptions. Of course, it can’t include all the beautiful villages of France; there are just so many of them! But one sits down and slowly turns the pages of the book and immediately is transported to these delightful locations, dreaming of actually being right there. Or better still, I’ll pack my bags and fly out on the next plane to France to immerse myself in each of these villages and become transformed with the experience.

I just got this book today. My mother is from France and I have family still there that my family keeps in contact with. I have ordered many books on France with good and bad results. Sometimes I find that photographs of France tend to be uninspired and not very intimate or personal. Rather remote. But, this book is just charming with beautiful photos. i was so taken with this book on my first flip through that I relish the digging in. The color photos make me have a better sense of the country and feel then those remote ones that seem to plague so many books on France. It is definitely worth buying for anyone interested in France.
