Small and neat
Worked right out of the box Set up in about 10 mins My Sony TV has a pvr built-in but will only record one channel at a time. And you can't turn the TV over to another channel while it is recording. With the Humax you can record four different programmes. And still watch something else at the same time. As I have owned the Humax T2 fox pvr in the past I know it's going to be well made Easy to use with good picture quality And definitely well made So I didn't buy brand new I purchased used Bar a few age related marks which was hardly noticeable I think it's great And a bargain It came through the post signed for with in a couple days Well worth the wait 😄😄 Hdmi cable power supply and Remote supplied

Its good, and reliable, but read on.......
I previously had a Humax 4000 for about 4-5yrs, before it stopped recording or letting me view any recorded programs. It still worked ok for viewing Freeview though. No problems before that. So new Humax 5000 2Tb bought. Frankly, not much difference, except glossy case and bigger hard drive. Works exactly as before. I`m used to the the viewing layout, although some people moan about it, why? The setup is easy, the remote works fine, (the original remote works on it too). Now the grrr moment.....I thought later, maybe the only problem with the old 4000 was the hard drive. So I looked to open the case, (as I had nothing to lose), and found the top is held on by 4 recessed lugs, and a screw at the back. After much fiddling (and a few choice words), I managed to release the top and remove it. Voila....all you see is the pcb control board, and a whacking great hard drive. (500Gb). Removed the hard drive and tested it, sure enough its gone kaput. Some people complain about a hum or other noises, its basically just the hard drive motor working, and some drives are noisier than other others. I did consider replacing it with a noiseless solid state drive (SSD), but these do not have the same lifetime as mechanical drives, so I fitted a replacement. Re-assembled the unit and installed on my bedroom tv. It worked. That`s the grrrr moment....I could have saved myself £250. As an electronics engineer, I should have known better. It proves I`m not infallible.... I thought I was....

Excellent to fully benefit freeView TV and more
Bought this to replace a HDR 2000T. ( works fine and gave it to a friend to replace an expensive Sky set up) This allows you to record 4 programmes simultaneously and watch another, which is great but makes me wonder if my chosen hard drive size of 500 GB will be large enough especially as most programmes that I record are in HD and therefore uses more memory than standard format. You can also freeze live TV whilst you stop to make tea etc, which will also then enable you to skip ads when paused for long enough. I do find the remote a bit clunky the way it clicks when pressed as other reviewers state, but I think this is OK and you get used to it. I Am used to it too with my previous Humax anyway. I like the little reminders on screen when it's about to record. The on demand and freeview play modes are quite slow loading but again this is bearable. One feature I love is the TV guide app, I got caught out when at a wedding recently and realised I had forgotten to record England & Scotland rugby.... The TV guide app on my phone resolved this! Excellent. All in all this is great. If you think about it.... You do get alot for your money compared to a Sky subscription. There are over 100 channels that are free to view on digital TV anyway plus this also has catch up TV for BBC, ITV and ch4 etc. You cannot go wrong buying this item in my opinion. It is easy to install and to navigate the different menus and brings to life freeview tv ( and more) Highly recommended item especially if you like your terrestial ( free) TV......

perfect for recording films over Christmas. Remote's a bit pants though and no Prime vid app
We got rid of our expensive Virgin Media package over a yr ago and have been happily using Freeview and some subscription based streaming apps, but we really missed the ability to pause TV and record stuff, like we could with the Virgin Tivo. This Humax box is perfect - we bought it just before Christmas and it's just been great. Easy to set up by myself using our normal aerial connection, plus I put in the loop as per instructions so we could still watch Freeview on our smart TV even if this box isn't on. I would reccommend always using the box though as the picture quality is better. We've got a great library of films and series linked dramas so couldn't be happier. We no longer miss the really good films on Film4 that get put on in the middle of the night, plus we get to fast forward the ads! The only downside is the remote - bit flimsy there does seem to be a delay a lot of the time when you scroll through stuff. The middle 'ring' of buttons sometimes misjudges which direction you're pressing in too, so I sometimes end up pressing something I didn't intend to press. Sort it out Humax, your box is great but your remote is naff! Oh and we can't seem to get the Prime video app through the box either which was a bit dissapointing, so rely on the smart TV it's connected to for that still.

Misses Programes
I was not going to leave a review for this recorder, but I have now owned it for a considerable time and found the Good and Bad points Good: Picture Quality is Excellent, Remote is easy to use, Programs are easy to find and to set recordings. Bad: This is Positively the worst of 5 recorders I have owned. The response time from sleep is exceptionally slow having to wait up to a full Minute for it to crawl into life, It does not Record a programme if the timing has altered, It has also missed recordings for no apparent reason, It continuously misses the last few minutes of programs, When you set it to record a series you get anything from one full series to every repeat of that series, When a series ends you have to manually delete it from the schedule or you end up with dozens of scheduled programs that don't exist. I used to rate Humax as a brand but when this one needs replacing I won't be buying Humax again. further to this it has now come to the stage whereby I have to switch off and back on every time I use it, otherwise there is no sound. unfortunately amazon has very few alternatives that come to the same specification.

Awful device. Nothing like previous models !
I have been using Humax Freeview PVRs for many years, and would say they were historically the best freeview PVRs by a country mile. The boxes, historically, inevitably give up in the end, but deliver excellent functionality, performance and reliability throughout their lives, and I’ve never had any reservation about upgrading and buying the next model, or the latest model at any given time. So when it came around to replacing again, did as I always do, went straight online and bought the latest model, this product FVP-5000T. That is where it all went wrong ! I would say that this device is possibly the worst device I have ever purchased ! I cannot believe that Humax could have gotten this product so spectacularly wrong!! All of the reasons I have purchased Humax PVRs over the year have gone. Honestly, it’s like the very opposite end of the spectrum. The user interface has a fraction of the functionality of previous devices. It looks cheap and nasty, unlike previous models which all had a look of quality about them, and felt robust. This model is housed in a cheap plastic housing, and just does not say quality. I have a usb hub with 5 external HDDs full of recorded material, and although this device is equipped with USB ports, I cannot get it to recognise any USB devices (and I’ve tried a few), so cannot play any previously recorded material. Cannot transfer any recorded media from the internal HDD to a USB HDD. Signal quality and reliability is dreadful. I’ve had to invest in a signal booster to get any kind of decent quality signal, but it varies according to which channel I’m watching, and constantly need to adjust the signal sensitivity of the device if I change channels. So much so that the signal booster is constantly positioned on the floor, in front of the PVR, with a small screwdriver to adjust the sensitivity of the signal booster. Honestly, this device is just awful, really !!! I’ve only had this a few months, but had enough now, and just ordered an alternative manufacturer’s device to replace it. Must confess that I have never used any other manufacturer device, so no idea what to expect, however it really cannot be any worse than what I have now. Honestly, I just cannot believe that this product can be offered as a superior model to previous products, whilst discontinuing the older versions ! Most companies launch new products with enhanced features or improved features, enhanced functions, or better connectivity, however it’s like they have launched their 1st device onto the market, Full of glitches and very poor functionality and poor reliability, Awful device, which has increased my stress levels beyond belief during the time that I have owned it, and I can’t take it any more. Fingers crossed my replacement will fulfil my needs, without the stress I had over this thing—————————— UPDATE. After only a few months I found a HDR-1800T online and swapped it for this dreadful device, what a difference ! This works like a dream, like it should do. So nice to have seamless, reliable and predictable performance again. Not sure where I’ll go when this dies, but hopefully Humax will get their act together and have another decent bit of kit available by then.

Great bit of kit
I bought this to replace a Virgin TiVo box due to an increase in monthly subscription. It took a little while to work out how to connect the box, but I got there eventually. I wasn’t sure if I had been sent the right box as the remote and guides were for satellite, when I had ordered for an aerial connection. I contacted the seller who was apologetic and helpful. I received a new remote and a link to the correct Freeview guide very quickly. It’s easy to use once set up and I have had no issues with recording programmes. The tv guide is a bit clunky and it is a shame that there is no access to ITVX, but I was aware of this when I purchased it. Been able to link to my Netflix and YouTube accounts. Very happy with my purchase.

3 tuners good. System is a bit clunky
Had a matter but it failed after a short time. Replaced it with this human as it has 3 tuners. As other reviewers have said the hand set is big but easy to use. 3 tuners are very handy. Record 2 different programs and still watch a third although it will not always record HD channels. Operation system is slow. Changing channels can be very slow and if you ask it to do too many things it will lock up. I have had to reboot it ( switch it off and on again) several times, at least every 2 to 3 weeks. It gets quiet warm so make sure it has a good air flow around it. I haven’t tried the phone app so cannot comment on that. Pros. 3 tuners. Compact. Quiet in use. Hand set is large but easy to use. Cons. Slow to start and change channels etc. locks up and requires a regular reboot. Regularly fails to record HD channels.
