Still a classic
Ah yes. One of the great 1980s power-sniffs, and still available, at a reasonable price. Yes, it's been reformulated, and no -it's not quite as strong. But it's still the same scent, still quite potent, still has decent longevity, and is still in that classic black glass bottle. Basically an aromatic fougere, it's quite a complex offering, the initial thunderous green woods gradually backing down into a mix of spice, leather and lavendar. If you could encapsulate the [male] scent of the 1980s, positive and negative, then this is probably the scent. It's the one many love to hate -a big success on launch, then a fall from grace and now, gradually, regaining an audience, partly for nostalgia in some buyers, partly, for others, because it's actually still very good. YSL's even more potent Kouros has a similar effect (though different scent) but recently it's become insanely expensive, difficult to find and -frankly- a little too overpowering. Drakkar Noir has stayed a little truer to its origins, and is probably the better for it. It's less familiar now than it was too, so it's easier to appreciate on its own merits. For the current prices -it's very good ideed and well worth trying if you fancy a trip down memory lane, or simply enjoy an aromatic, woody scent with quite a lot of depth.

Classic masculine
Reviews describe this as a barbershop or classicaly masculine fragrance, simply put it smells like you have used a shaving soap and applied it with the little shaving brush, with a touch of spice and talcum powder. Literally how you would imagine you would smell after going to a barber for a shave and a haircut on the 80's or 90's. I got into fragrances in the mid 90's in my teens when lynx wasn't good enough anymore. So if you have tried old spice or even brut you will be familiar with this style of scent. It's recognisable as it was a powerhouse and everywhere back in the day. The bottle design is simple but easy to hold whilst spraying, a lot of bottles try to be fancy recently and they are a nightmare to be able to hold comfortably whilst spraying yourself. I have a large collection of designer and niche fragrances but wanted this as modern styles are a little too sweet or youthful smelling, being aimed at the younger generation and even though they say masculine, they are actually unisex for mass appeal. This fragrance is definitely masculine and distinctive. Even though it's been reformulated over the years it's still a BEAST in performance. If your the kind of person who uses 2-3 sprays of modern designer fragrances as you don't want to offend anyone with your scent, this might not be for you. Initial projection on my skin was about 2 meters for the first hour, slowly reigning itself in to about a 2 foot projection from hour 1 into hour 2 and then down to a skin scent before it was gone at about 3.5-4 hours. This to me is amazing for a couple of reasons, first of all it's an eau de toilette which puts it's longevity bang on what expectations are for it's concentration but secondly it by far out performs some of my other fragrances that are eau de parfum concentration and cost 10 times more than this bottle costs. Simply put, a nice throwback style scent, can be used anytime if your the kind of person who is unapologetic about smelling like a boss and isn't worried about others smelling your raw alpha dominance before you get into the room.

Candle Fragrance in a Bottle
This is going to sound strange but I purchased this classic scent because I found out it bares a remarkable resemblance to one of my favourite Yankee Candles. Midsummer’s Night is the candle in question, and now I smell like it. Just don’t light my wick.

I've always loved the smell of this men's spray and am so glad they still make it. Even with shipping it's cheaper on Amazon than at Walmart.

Drakkar Noir gets a bad rap for being an "old guy" cologne. I remember wearing it in the 80s and 90s, so I bought it again decades later (2023). My opinion: it brought back all the old memories and still smells just like I remember. One spritz is enough after your morning shower. It's an elegant fragrance for us "seasoned" gentlemen. Here's how I would describe the scent: primarily cedar wood and leather. Secondary: cinnamon, pine, lavendar, and sandalwood. It's subjective, but I'd describe it as an earthy elegant fragrance that isn't over bearing. I still love it after all these years.
