Vitax Greenhouse Fumigator 3.5g

Not as much smoke as some I've used and no bad smell outside the greenhouse.

In all fairness I miss ordered this item thinking it was the make that I have used before. Advertised as a greenhouse fumigator, this product comes in a similar tin to the other product. I knew something was wrong when I opened the package and the tin felt like it was empty. Taking the lid of the can I was confronted with a very small plastic vial. Should have sent it back then but thought I would give it a try. Placed the vial in my small greenhouse, I took the plastic lid off the vial and was confronted with a large paper wick. Lit the wick and closed the greenhouse. A wisp of bluish smoke arose from the vial. So far, so good. Came back after 6h. The air in the greenhouse was still crystal clear. The other product by now would have misted the whole greenhouse. Opening the greenhouse, not even a whiff of of it being fumigated. I won't make the same mistake again. Avoid. Why do they send the plastic vial in a large tin can if not to mislead?

I use it for the greenhouse once all tomatoes are finished it kills all the wee beasties that are there

I see that some of the reviews grumble about the limited quantity of smoke produced by this item. But it is not meant to be a traditional sulphur candle! The active ingredient here is permethrin, a good & effective insecticide, that is reasonably safe. A sulphur candle on the other hand simply produces a noxious gas (that can make your greenhouse look like it is on fire) in the form of sulphur dioxide that kills most plant & animal life that it envelops. This product (Vitax Greenhouse Fumigator) is essentially a distribution system for an insecticide that has a degree of persistence even after you have used the fumigator (so any bugs entering the greenhouse in the following week or two will also get zapped). In contrast, the sulphur dioxide from a sulphur candle probably dissipates within a day, with no lasting effect - although the sulphuric acid produced from the smoke can be corrosive to some metal fittings in the greenhouse. So, there is nothing wrong with Vitax Greenhouse Fumigator, it works fine. It is a case of horses-for-courses: old boys might prefer a sulphur candle while tree huggers will choose the Vitax.

These were a repeat purchase and as before got rid of all the unwanted insects in my greenhouse just follow the instructions which are inside the tins and you can not go wrong.

Didn’t get a lot of smoke from it and it didn’t last more than couple minutes. Expensive for what it is
