Easily one of the best out there
I’ve lived in Japan and used to have curry on a near daily basis so I know a thing or two about it. This curry block is by far one of the most authentic tasting. Not sweet like some can be but not overly spicy either. I’ve tried S&B at varying levels of spicyness and if you’re after something that’s already spicy without adding to it then those might work for you. But, if you want an all rounder that has an authentic taste then this is for you!

A food to remember.
I always wanted to try making curry with blocks, but there are none in my country. I resorted in the past to make curry paste from scratch. Finally, I decided to order this from Amazon. It was the best decision I could make, despite being more expensive for me because of the delivery cost (it is higher than the cost of the itself as of the current date). It is very easy to cook, and there are many tutorial videos on YouTube with this very brand, so it is rather impossible to make mistakes. The curry itself is in two large blocks with each of them having thiner lines around smaller cubes, similar to a chocolate. One small cube is equal to two servings (or appetizer size if you are a balkan bear like me) and the box shows how much products you will need for the whole box, so its not hard to do the maths for the volume of curry you are going after. Yes, the packaging itself is lacking, because it doesn't provide a way to preserve it for cooking more than once. My guess is that this curry is targeted towards restaurants and there is no need to package it better. But there is no problem to just pack it with one more plastic bag and throw it into the freezer to preserve it. It is fine. The smell and the taste of the curry when it was done was something else. It is hard to describe, it starts off slightly sweet, just to hit you with wide variety of great tastes and finish it off with a slight spiciness. The more I ate, the more I felt hungrier, it is that good. One thing is for sure - when I have the chance, I will order again, because this quickly turned into one of the foods I love and I no longer will need to bother with gathering the spices to make a curry paste whenever I want to make curry.

Hmmmm! Yum.
I took a fancy to ordering this as I saw someone using it on a tv cooking competition. I normally use the jars or large packets in maybe Korma or similar mild curry. I've never seen it before, so yep I'm in there looking for it. This seems to be it, as it does come in like a cube block. I find it is a bit hard to crumble so I cut it into the meal halfway through with scissors as it cooks and mix in, it works. Then I just add the water to make as liquidy as I prefer. Seems to be about one cube or less per person. Thickens up too. Try for yourself and see how it is for your taste. If you find it a bit samey, try adding a bit of ginger, garlic or worcester sauce to zest up. I did also order another brand but I have to say this one for me is better and a little sweeter. I did order the kilo size and it is massive so err on the side of caution and put a smaller amount in and taste as you go. This big size will last forever but for a family will go quicker, just two of us.

Japanese curry!
If you're cooking Japanese curry, you can't go wrong with this. I grew up in Japan and I happily recommend to use this one. Great value for money too.

The best you can buy
This is without a doubt the most authentic curry block on here and in what I have tried, the market. Some people have left reviews saying it isn’t great because it isn’t spicy, I’m sure they say the same thing about milk, spice doesn’t equal nice. Also a few saying it taste like chip shop curry sauce, it doesn’t. I had worked in the hospitality industry for over a decade and worked in a restaurant where we specialised in Japanese cuisine and this block was the base for the Japanese curry. Not to mention this is made in Japan and eaten by it’s people. The main gripe here for people seems to be as it’s not super spicy it’s not nice. Don’t let other people’s poor pallets sway you. If cooked correctly this is packed with flavour and rivals the curry sauce at Wagamama’s.

Real katsu
Worked in a Japanese restaurant and we used this and no other brand, tasty and creamy katsu guaranteed. I now buy this to use at home and it never disappoints.

Best Japanese curry ever!
We are absolutely loving it! The brand is our family favorite. It’s a little spicier than the version from the same brand we would usually get, but flavor is basically the same. It can be ‘down-spiced’ with some milk and a bit of honey if truly necessary, but that’s up to taste. It’s much cheaper to buy in this big chunk and the curry ‘block’ can be stored in fridge/freezer for longer. You can also adjust the thickness of the sauce, to your own taste by using more or less curry. We even do like it with fluffy white bread for tea.We have bought this before and will continue to do so, unless we can get our flavor from the same brand directly from Japan through friend/family.For all those who like the Japanese style curries and Katsu-curry, this is the best & cheapest option available abroad from Japan. Our children absolutely love it!
