ALPIDEXClimbing Rope Ascender Set for both hands right and left

Bought these to help climb a mast on a sail boat as a precaution in case the winch packed in.I am not an expert or even an enthusiastic climber but they work well for me and I did receive instruction from a climber of 40 odd years before getting off the deck.I am very happy with the product and would buy again if I have to but to be honest they look and feel as if they will outlive me.

I use these ascenders for climbing the mast on my boat, I can manage to do that on my own as it means that I don't need someone on a winch. The technique takes a bit of time to master, but once you've done that, it is a swift and safe way to get up the mast. My main halyard that I use is 12mm and is about as big as you would want to go, my guess is that they would be easier to use with either 10 or 11mm rope. They are nicely made and for what I use them for are more than satisfactory.

I have found these ascenders a grate addition to my climing equipment and would have no hesitation recommending them to any budding climing enthusiast!

Use them only with thicker rope, non-elastic. I tried it with 9mm rope, and when I tried to climb, tensioning the rope, after 3 steps it started slipping completely, there was no lock on it anymore. Only the blue one does that, the red one doesn't, apparently... I could have fallen to death if there weren't the 3 other safety devices I used. Rule of thumb: Always use backup you can trust, when testing out new climbing gear! Stay safe!
