Easy Cleanup and SMOOTH finish
I recently used Johnstone's Quick Dry Satin in Brilliant White for a home renovation project, and it exceeded my expectations in every way. This paint is a fantastic choice for anyone looking to achieve a beautiful, durable finish on interior wood, metal, or even radiators. Here’s why I’m so impressed with this product:No Separate Undercoat NeededOne of the biggest advantages of Johnstone's Quick Dry Satin is that it doesn’t require a separate undercoat. This is a huge time-saver, especially when tackling large projects. I was able to apply the paint directly to the surface, and it adhered perfectly, providing excellent coverage with just two coats. The finish was smooth and even, without any signs of streaking or patchiness. Not having to worry about an undercoat made the entire painting process faster and more straightforward.Easy ApplicationThe application of this paint is incredibly easy. The consistency is just right—not too thick or too runny—which made it a pleasure to work with. Whether I was using a brush or a roller, the paint glided on effortlessly, covering the surface with minimal effort. The satin finish looks fantastic, providing a subtle sheen that enhances the appearance of wood and metal surfaces. I was particularly pleased with how well it worked on radiators, giving them a fresh, modern look.Quick Drying TimeAnother standout feature of this paint is its quick drying time. It dries to the touch in just 1-2 hours, which allowed me to finish my project in record time. This quick turnaround is perfect for those who need to complete a project in a day or simply don’t want to wait long between coats. Despite the fast drying time, the paint doesn’t compromise on quality—each coat dries evenly and adheres well to the surface.Easy CleanupCleanup was a breeze with this water-based paint. Brushes and rollers washed out easily with just soap and water, leaving no residue behind. This made the whole painting process much less of a chore, and I appreciated not having to deal with strong solvents or lingering odors. The low-odor formula is another plus, making it much more pleasant to work with indoors.Impressive CoverageWith a coverage of up to 12m² per litre, the 2.5L tin provided more than enough paint for my project. I was able to cover multiple doors, trim, and a couple of radiators with plenty of paint to spare. The brilliant white color is truly brilliant—it’s a clean, crisp white that brightens up any space and holds up well over time.Final ThoughtsOverall, Johnstone's Quick Dry Satin in Brilliant White is a top-notch paint that delivers on all fronts. The no-undercoat-needed feature, easy application, quick drying time, and hassle-free cleanup make it an ideal choice for both DIY enthusiasts and professionals alike. Whether you’re painting wood, metal, or radiators, this paint provides a beautiful, durable finish that you’ll be proud of. I'll definitely be using this from now on for all my internal painting projects.

Great alternative to oil based paint
I just finished painting a couple of radiators using Johnston’s Interior Wood & Metal Quick Dry Satin Brilliant White Paint. It’s the first time I’ve ever used this paint, and I went with it based on some reviews I read online. Before this I used hammerite radiator Paint which is oil based. The downside with oil based paint is it can be difficult to use, especially if you’re used to normal water based paints. You have to work quickly because if you go over areas that have started to dry, it pulls with the paintbrush and doesnt look good at all. It also smells really strong, and if you get it on anything, it’s hard to get off. You have to use white spirit to clean your brushes, and it takes ages. The main reason I looked for a water based paint to use on radiators is because oil based gloss paints tend to go yellow over time, especially if they’re not exposed to light. This is one big advantage of a water-based radiator paint, it stays white and you can clean your brushes with water instead of white spirit. There are also fewer toxic fumes, and if you get it on anything, you can usually wipe it off with a damp cloth. So how did this paint work out? Well, it s quick dry, but it s still a bit tricky to use, like an oil based paint. After painting in one area for two or three minutes, you cant really go back to touch it up because it will pull the paint and it doesn’t look good. In terms of preparation, you’re supposed to lightly sand the surface and use an undercoat if the color is really different. My radiators were a kind of off-white, yellowish colour, and they were painted a long time ago, so I didnt bother with sanding or undercoat. I just made sure they were clean, and the paint stuck to the surface really well.It does say on the tin that you can use a roller or a brush, its dry in 1-2 hours, and you can clean it with water. One thing to watch out for is that it has some chemical in it that might cause an allergic reaction, so you shouldnt breathe it in. I used a P3 respirator mask and opened a window just to be safe. In terms of smell theres not much advantage over oil-based paint. The one downside is that this paint tends to leave brush marks. I used a good quality harris brush, and while it doesnt look too bad in person, you can still see the brush marks. but because my radiator was already yellow underneath, I got away with one coat, which was nice. When you are up close, you might think it looks a bit rough, but when you step back, it actually looks really good. The fact that it’ll stay brilliant white is just great in my opinion.I would buy this paint again if I had to paint another radiator. With hammerite, you get tiny little tins that cost a lot more, and its a pain to clean the brushes plus if its going to go yellow over time, thats no good. I cant say how long this paint will stay white since it’s only been on for an hour, but I am hopeful it’ll last a long time.
