Q: How much weight can this product comfortably tolerate? I'm thinking of buying this for my parents but they are chunky people, so need a product that won't collapse.

i myself am 15 stone my neighbour about 16 stone sat on the bench together side by side there was very little movement.i hope this helps in your decision.

Q: Is it waterproof and can you leave cushions in it and will they remain perfectly dry

Eddie, Absolutely 110% waterproof, I have garden pots gardening gloves a big bag of peat plus solar lights, been in there since last June year when I purchased my seat, all dry,and I have put my solar lights out, your cushions will be dry...No water gets in at all..hope this helps 
