What size reed should a beginner use on alto sax? I will be teaching myself!

Personally started on 1.5. Softer reeds will be easier to play so you have an easier time training your embouchure. After a while (say 6 months) it is worth trying higher strengths allowing you to get more clarity and tone to your sound especially on the highs and lows of your instrument. P.S. You will not sound good at first, but keep persevering and it will be a blast... record and listen back to your self! Goodluck =)

Are the reeds individually wrapped in the box of 10?

The ones I bought were individually wrapped.

They are for an alto sax. As far as I know there is only one type of alto sax so should be ok. I do though prefer the Rico Royal reefs which fit me play better- vandiren two and a half is more like a 3 in other types so is harder to blow for me.
