great book
I really enjoyed this book and learned a lot about the history of vehicle electrification - not much background knowledge needed.

A must read on the history of the modern battery electric car
Matthew Eisler’s book, Age of Auto Electric: Environment, Energy, and the Quest for the Sustainable Car is both timely and important. In this carefully researched and wonderfully written history, Eisler recasts the history of electric vehicles in the broader context of “energy and environmental policies, systems of energy conversion and industrial production, and material practices of innovation.” That is to say, this is a book about a lot more than just the batteries that power electric cars. In Eisler’s analysis, the history of battery electric cars can only be understood when embedded in broader debates over mobility, electrification, and accumulation that have split the interests of automakers, regulators, consumers, and environmentalists.
