Don't be scared by cosmology....
I came across this guy on YouTube and he was SO good at explaining tricky stuff. I watched a few more of his mini clips, then decided I needed a book. This one was the one most recommended by buyers and I have to say I find it totally fascinating. So much great info in it (easy to understand, and without jargon) that I find myself writing down numerous 'facts' just I can remember them. eg: * Over 200 planets not in our solar system have so far been discovered. * If the human eye could 'see' microwave energy, we would be able to spot police radar gun beams. * The moon doesn't exactly orbit the Earth - They both rotate around a point 1000 miles below the Earth's surface. Incidentally, black holes are just a tiny aspect of the book. Most of it is about new and updated information on astronomy and universe origins, etc. I really like this book. It's as interesting and easy to read as Bill Bryson's superb 'Short History of Nearly Everything.'

Awesome
I am yet to see another book on creation of the universe and laws of the heathens that is as fun to read. This book is great, written in Tyson's famous style (watch a couple of his presentations and you will know what I am talking about), entertaining and funny. It is also insightful and isn't just collection of fun-fact, you get the whole picture. A great read if you are interested in the cosmos and how it came to be. Much easier to read than the bible!

Great educational book
I'm not a scientist or an academic of any sort but have recently become interested in some branches of science and space imparticular. This book explains things in an amusing and easy to understand way, since im just a kind of dumb average guy who didn't pay attention in school i occasionally put the book down and do some research to get on the same page which leads me down various paths that help increase my understanding which is great. I highly reccomend this book.

Gosh, how much I enjoyed that book.
I am reading loads of books, and I have loads more to read, waiting down the pipe. But this is probably one of few I will read again. That was such a good, nicely, smooth written science, I love how Neil is so vividly describing ie conditions inside core of our Sun or how atoms interact. He is literally pushing my imagination to the limits. Must have read book for everyone who enjoys astronomy !!!Now, I need to buy printed version to proudly put it on my shelf.

Brilliant
Ok, so you're looking for a science book that's accessible to everyone - you've found it!Neil goes over some really interesting concepts, but they aren't what I would say for advanced readers. Much like his work on Cosmos, the concepts are simple but entertaining and informative. This is a book you could give to beginners who are just dipping their toes into astronomy, physics and earth space sciences.Like always, it's written in a warmer tone than say, Dawkins or Hitchens, and is even more accessible than Hawking although his works are written for the every day person as well.I wouldn't say this is for kids, but kids who are "advanced" in reading and sciences would get a kick out of this.I'd love to meet this guy one day. Him, Bill Nye, Carl Sagan and Stephen Hawking sparked my love of science in my high school years, and it became an obsession in my adulthood.

Dr. Tyson never fails to amaze
beautifully written, the book contains loads and loads of interesting facts about the universe. There are quite a few repetition of entire paragraphs in different chapters, but if read them hearing in your mind Dr. Tyson voice you won't mind

This book is for people in a hurry, but anyone can read it.
Science can be fun and humorous with Dr. Tyson. Any non science person can also fall in love with science if it is delivered to him in the manner Dr. Tyson has written this book. The articles (chapters) are short, up to the point (but at the same time can impart a lot of knowledge to the reader as they contain tonnes of information), and of course, humorous. You won't be able to control your laughter in some of the chapters. Also, the criticism carried out by him on the inaccurate scientific depictions in sci-fi Hollywood movies is worth a read (humorous criticism). (I bet it would have been more funny if he had any knowledge about Bollywood!!)And trust me, you won't be able to put this book down. Also, the readers will later realise that the book's title isn't apt. 'Astrophysics for people in a hurry- Part 1' or any title that is more or less like this one would sound more suitable. So therefore, I recommend this book to everyone, not only science lovers or readers but to the non science ones also. And last but not least, thanks to Amazon for the super fast delivery. I badly wanted this book and they fulfilled this wish by delivering it the very next day!!
