Fireside Ash Carrier Galvanised Metal Hot Tidy Box Container Fireplace Pan Bucket Bin

This is a most useful piece of equipment and makes the clearing up of ashes from the fire so much easier. It is well made and well finished. Should last a lifetime.

I've marked it down by 2 stars as it was not usable when it first arrived. Does what it is intended for but a very poor finish. The spot welds on the hinges were very poorly done and some came apart as it was being taken from the packaging. It didn't seem worth all the hassle of sending it back, particularly as I have a hand riveter. Once drilled and re-riveted, a very simple and quick job, it is perfect for its purpose. Shame about the initial quality.

This is a good value ash box. But there are a couple of points that the manufacturers might think about: Just to check the construction quality, I looked into the box and noticed very small gaps where the folds were welded into place on the lower corners.... You know, just where the ash will go when you pick up the box to take it out of the room. Check yours. Rather more importantly, there is a glaring omission. The carrying handle is not secured inside the box. There is the possibility that the handle can come out of the hole and drop the box and contents on your carpet. This potential danger can be overcome with two 1p. crimp washers, securing the handle in place. Given the temperatures and materials involved, this might well be a reason to look elsewhere....... assuming that 'elsewhere' doesn'thave the same omission. UPDATE: a year later, after much usage, the corrosion on the inside of the box has lead to the lid parting from the body. I imagine that this will be a problem common to all boxes if left outside to cool, so, if such a box exists, a heavier gauge construction would seem more suitable. It really does come down to due diligence, such as looking at boxes to assess quality from suppliers such as Tippy as all the other offerings look the same.

I found the ash box perfect for disposing of hot ash. It was safe and easy to use. Would recommend

Terribly built, flexes so the lid won’t shut properly, as well as small holes in the bottom corners where the steel has been bent over to form the shape of the box as ash can get through. I’d suggest looking for something a little more sturdy.

Welded joints have gaps where fine ash can escape and cause mess in rooms

Not as solid as I was expecting but it does the job. Will need to replace this one sooner than expected but the price was so attractive compared to others.

Really pleased with this. It is a generous size and find the handles helpful to lift the lid and empty straight into the wheelie bin. Have left outside to let ashes cool in wind and rain and seems hardwearing and strong. Also arrived well packaged and no delays.
