Fantastic first scouting knife
Son is an avid cub scout and although young I bought this a birthday present after he saw his friends big brother with one.Tool is superb. After some other comments it was remiss of me to assume folks would understand about knives, I agree I should have explained more fully the 'dulling' of the blade. I dulled the cutting edge completely to turn the blade into a spatualla (as other's comments indicate this needs to be done carefully, because a knife that has become blunted is more dangerous than a sharp one). So on the comments of danger, the blade is as dangerous as a thick feeler guage.Alternatively heed the advice at face value and take care next time you use a butter knife !Seriously, though you cannot safely re-sharpen the blade once you have rendered it useless !! So ultimately you need to buy another knife.Despite the 'spatulla' it makes a useful tool particularly for a young cub scouts first knife.Highly recommended.

Well made product but stiff
This is a nice product but it's very tightly sprung/stiff so I would only recommend it for older teenagers (16+) and/or someone who's got some experience using pocket knives. It can snap shut very easily, potentially causing injury to people who don't know how to properly open and close a pocket knife. Besides that, it seems to be a well made product.

Perfect for a first knife
Brilliant bit of kit, I got it for my nephew a d he is thrilled with it. Sadly the order I placed first time around never turned up, and still hasn't, but that's Christmas post I expect, but, and a big but, Amazon turned that around and sent a replacement out very quick time and all was saved! The knife has some brilliant common sense safety features and only carries the tools you will need for basic wild camping. It's as safe as you can make a pen knife apart from a the absence of a locking blade. Overall view, brilliant!

Perfect expedition and household tool
Everyone knows the quality of Swiss army knives so take that as a given. If you are buying one for "normal" usage there are better value offerings in the range. What makes this model great is the main blade. The cutting edge is sharp as you would expect but instead of having the traditional sharp point it has a rounded "nose" making it impossible to have any sort of stabbing style motion. That is why it can be recommended (and approved by Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme) for youths taking them on camping expeditions or simply as a tool for them.

good value fro money (from here) and does all she ...
Daughter needed a knife for her DofE and this came up as an option. We noticed that the knife blade is rounded off so we decided it would be safer for her to have this model thinking if she needs a sharp point she can always use the sisscors. It is well made, good value fro money (from here) and does all she needs. She is hoping to use the bag carrier tho help pull out tent pegs!

One of the worst Swiss army knives I've ever used
One of the worst Swiss army knives I've ever used. I love victorinox tools and I've owned about 6 Swiss army knives. This one was a gift and it's just not suitable for DofE. For a start, kids doing DofE don't need a safety blade. It's impractical and useless, given that the blade itself is sharp. Secondly, why have a bottle opener instead of a can opener for a DofE knife? Frankly, you're much better off getting a different knife for DofE, maybe the camper or the huntsman. This isn't worth it.

D of E pen knife
Bough this for my daughter as she's doing the bronze D of E. It works, nice and small. I would think a similar pen knife without D of E stamped on it would have been cheaper!

Great tool
I bought this for my sons Dof E expeditions and he was really impressed with it. He was the only one one with a penknife and was called upon to use it several times. My 2 have their own penknives, but as he wasn't 18, the rounded blade meant that he could carry this without adult supervision and his team leader passed it without any qualms. I am buying another, this year, for son no. 2.

Victorinox Duke of Edinburgh
