Rose TInted Glasses Reveiew - OMG HAHAHAHAHAHAHA IM SO HAPPYNon-Rose Tinted Glasses Review - OMG....IM STILL SOO HAPPY!!!Ok, maybe the above isnt so subjective. However, with a show like this, it really is going to depend on why you are looking buying this.If you are someone of a certain age, who watched this when it was first shown, you'll enjoy the trip down memory lane, regardless of the obvious flaws. If you are someone of a millennial age, you’ll either consider this B-movie trash or love its eccentricities. Here are the simple version pro’s, mediums, and cons -Fantastic music scoreFantastic castingMedium Special EffectsMedium PlotMedium DirectingPoor Special EffectsPoor PlotYou might notice, I’ve doubled up there on some stuff. Quite simple, some of the plot was actually quite well done, some was quite dire. Some of the special effects were actually close to Star Wars quality, a lot weren’t.Here’s the thing, suspend disbelief, watch this. For the price, your not going to be losing out much if you don’t like it. But you might be surprised, and like it very much. It’s very 70’s unlike Star Wars, but in some ways, that lends to its charm. Some of the actors are quite fantastic, and some are fantastically cheesy. In the good way though. If you like Sci-fi, you should watch this, at the very least for historical purposes. If you like it, you can watch the full TV series. In a way, there is an element of a Firefly forerunner in the series. The second series, not so much to be fair, but watch it anyhow. Oh, and if you loved watching the film Mission Galactica, its a collection of 3 episodes from the TV series with some editing. Sadly we wont get the original re-edit on DVD/Bluray now, but you can at least get the crux of it from the series!

Blue Ray - Battleship Galactia
I began watching Battlestar Galactia on Freeview. Then our TV lost all terrestrial channels intermitanly over the recent weeks, There was no catch-up either, so I have missed quite a few episodes. At the time there seemed to be no DVD versions for sale and so when I remembered, part of my DVD player was for Blue Rays, I ordered one there and then. Now I need time to sit and watch from the beginning. Hoping it is a good version!!!

A great restoration of a TV classic.
If you know the original Battlestar Galactica movie release of the first 2 TV episodes bundled together, then you know that the effects are top notch. After winning an Oscar Richard Dyskstra created the brilliant dog fights and model work for Galactica. Universal have clearly spent a great deal of time restoring the movie version. There is even a new title sequence copied from the film originals. The image quality is just incredible in places and the High Dynamic Range(HDR) of the image from dark to ultra bright is wonderful. I can not recommend this restoration enough. However even though this is limit edition Steelbook, it is just a bare bones release with not even a commentary track or the documentary from the series boxset included. So it is underwelming as a release. But Galactica has never looked this great and fans will love the visuals but not lack of extra's.

Excellent!!!
The 4K ULTRA HD Blu Ray disc version of this film has greatly improved sound and picture quality over the standard Blu Ray disc version when played through a 4K ULTRA HD Blu Ray player and a 4K ULTRA HD TV with HDR (High Dynamic Range).

Great picture quality and a fun trip down memory lane.
Looks about the best it ever has with the model shots appearing very clear. It's weird watching this now and remembering it was made for TV as the model and effects work was of a very high standard for the time even in films. Looks a bit creaky in indoor scenes and some of the photo backdrops are very obvious in 1080p. But to be honest you probably know that and if you're here to knock it for being made in the late 70's you probably shouldn't get this. It's very of its time, but with some great ideas and concepts, and not so great haircuts and space discos.Really hoping they will release the whole series now in HD as this is the movie edit of the pilot which is about half an hour shorter than the TV version. However that will be in 4:3 and this is 16:9, loosing part of the top and bottom of the full frame pilot, but what we see should be of higher resolution than a full frame release if they've scanned it right - looks damn clear in most places to me.The Sensurround soundtrack is really bassy especially if you have a sub hooked up - but that's how it was shown in cinemas.Think of this a nice companion piece to the series if it is ever given an HD release. It's region free and plays fine on a UK PS3 and BD player.

Relive the early 80's!
I remember watching this on TV way back in the 80's, but my memory was limited to the end sequence with the honeycomb-like tombs - it obviously traumatised me back then in ways I had repressed! Anyways, this blu-ray really does deliver. The transfer looks great and it sounds really good. Its presented in widescreen - and I believe they've cropped the original pilot episode to achieve this, though you don't really notice any cropping while watching (infact in one scene I caught glimpse of a boom mic top centre, can only imagine on the tv pilot how that looked!) It really does look great though, and all the effects seem to have been left untouched, nothing looks like its been tampered with.I'd completely forgotten just how many famous people were in this - Dirk Benedict, Jane Seymour, Lorne Green, even the kid from Never ending story!)

Theatrical Version of classic 1978 Battlestar Galactica Bare-Bones Blu Ray Release
Battlestar Galactica debuted in the fall of 1978 as a 3-hour TV movie. This three-hour pilot was edited down to feature-film length and released outside the United States first to promote the series. At the conclusion of the series in the spring of 1979, the theatrical version was released in the United States. This Blu Ray is that edited-down release that showed in movie theaters. It looks great on Blu-Ray. This was a TV show filmed in a cinematic style, and some scenes look better than others but its definitely an improvement over the previous DVD and VHS versions (the opening scene with the Galactica cruising by is great!). The theatrical version was released in "Sensurround," basically a subwoofer system that would provide a heavy bass rumble during explosions. There was no apparent attempt to replicate this on the Blu Ray. Antagonist Baltar's fate is different in this version compared to the TV version (spoiler: not as good an outcome for him here). This Theatrical Version is included with the DEFINITIVE Collection BSG 1978 Blu Ray set (red box) but it is NOT included with the cheaper REMASTERED Collection BSG 1978 Blu Ray set (black box). So if you have the Black Box set, you'll definitely want this BR disc!

Serie tv nostalgica e molto affascinante.
