10.5 is the height, 9.5 is the width, 6.5 is the depth

Q: How suitable is this piece for travel? I need something to store my jewelry I take to various vendor shows that won't "spill."

You would have to find a way to keep the drawers shut. theyll slide open if you tilt it causing the contents to spill

For my usage, it is. The plastic is a pretty thick plastic and I am currently using it as a shelf for a few of my decorations to sit on top.

Q: Do you need to build it?

No, it comes put together...just make sure you check all corners and everything, because they can break in shipping...we had to send one back for that reason.
