I keep buying for the scent, but it cleans well & is very economical
This was going to be another ridiculously long review. This is the short version (after which I deleted or edited the long one) 1. Detergent is strongly scented. Not for people with fragrance sensitivities. I absolutely love the scent which I find fresh and kind of floral in a way that original Downy is fresh and kind of floral (but not the same scent). 2. The scent may be toned down somewhat depending on how your laundry is rinsed or dried or if you add any other scented or unscented products, or if you use a dryer or air dry. Some people like their laundry to smell "fresh" forever, so they use things like scent beads. However, clothing, sheets, and towels, folded and put away in drawers and closed cabinets can retain the scent for a while though the smell does lighten depending on length of storage and air circulation. 3.Works best in hot water, but also does a great job in cold water as well without having to pre-dissolve the detergent. For particularly bad stains or ground-in dirt, you may need a laundry booster or spot stain-remover. 4. Comes in a thick plastic bag. If it was re-sealable I have no idea since I didn't plan to keep in in the bag. I would recommend getting a plastic or otherwise reusable storage bucket or bin with a tight-fitting lid to keep out moisture. Cut out the panel with the instructions, though after a while you may need to add either more or less detergent according to size of load, type of washer, water quality, and how dirty those clothes actually get. 5. Tip: Throw in a couple of measuring cups--1/4 cup with either a 1/3 or 1 cup measuring cup seem to be good sizes and make it easier to adjust to various amounts if you can do basic math. There are probably metric instructions on the bag too for everyone else not in the United States. 6. Softness? Only mentioning this because it's on the list of suggested ideas to cover in the review. Doesn't do anything either way, unless you used too much detergent or did not rinse it out well and your clothes ended up stiff. I put some things, especially my cheap towels, through an extra rinse to make sure there is no soap residue, but to add liquid fabric softener. Some machines automatically have a first and final rinse. Mine does not. Ariel has makes a formula with Downy fabric softener added to the wash. If you wash a lot of children's sleepwear, or other fabrics that are supposed to be flame-resistant, you should stick to the regular detergent since fabric softeners, especially after a few washings, can actually make the garment MORE flammable. Important note: While I keep reading articles or seeing videos warning people not to EVER use fabric softener on bath towels--that tip applies only to high quality 500-600 gsm (or higher) towels made with the finest, long-staple Turkish or Egyptian cotton. If you bought towels at Dollar Tree, or from Walmart's most "bargain" line, you need fabric softener on those towels so they won't take your skin off like sandpaper. All and all I do recommend the detergent, especially if you want more bang for your buck, and either like or don't mind the scent (try a smaller bag first). While some customers complained that the bag seemed too small, I am just about to put in a re-order after 5 full months. We have a large capacity high-efficiency washing machine, and if you have an HE machine, you use less detergent anyway. It's only 2 of us, but I prefer to change my sheets every week if I can (and I'm down to 2 sets that actually fit the mattress well--plus a 3rd set that kind of fits, but the bottom sheet pulls off constantly). Blankets , bedspreads, quilts, pillows, etc. are also washed every few months or weeks as needed. Since I have several chronic pain and mobility issues that can flare up, I am often confined to bed, and it's nice to have fresh linens. Maybe you might not be able to go almost half a year without buying more detergent, but generally, unless the price suddenly hikes, this is a good detergent for a decent price. If it's in your budget, you should just buy Tide, since it some formulas work better (but I also notice that some Tide formulations can really cause more delicate fabrics to pill and fade).

Powerful Stain Fighter With an Amazing Fresh Scent
Ariel Ultra Oxi Powder Laundry Detergent has quickly become one of my absolute favorites. What’s not to love? It’s truly one of the best stain‑fighting detergents I’ve used, and it consistently gets my clothes looking bright and clean. The whitening power is impressive—my whites come out noticeably fresher and more vibrant after each wash. The scent is another huge plus. The original fragrance is fresh without being overpowering, and it makes my entire laundry room smell amazing every time I open the container. Even after drying, my clothes keep that clean, crisp scent that feels like they’ve been washed professionally. A little goes a long way, so the 105 oz size lasts me quite a while, making it a great value for the quality you get. It dissolves well, works beautifully in both warm and cold water, and handles tough stains without any extra effort on my part. Overall, this detergent delivers on every promise, powerful cleaning, bright whites, long‑lasting freshness, and excellent value. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a dependable, effective laundry detergent that truly performs

My new go to detergent.
This was my first time using Ariel Ultra Oxi Powder, and I’m honestly blown away. The fresh scent is clean and crisp without being overpowering, and it lingers just enough to make the whole load smell amazing. The 105 oz size is generous too. You really feel like you’re getting your money’s worth. What really sealed it for me is the cleaning power. I’ve used TIDE powder for years, but Ariel outperforms it by a long shot with cheaper price. Clothes come out brighter, stains lift easier, and everything just feels fresher. I didn’t expect such a noticeable difference on the very first wash, but here we are. If you’re on the fence, give it a try. I’m genuinely impressed and definitely switching.

Cost, efficiency and great on sensitive skin.
I should have switched earlier. It’s great for my sensitive skin, beautiful soft clean light scent and my clothes are actually getting MORE clean than with Tide with a much better price point, using less than tide and I got a big bag. Clothes come out softer without any use of fabric softener as well. It dilutes quickly too. Sorry Tide. Ya lost me. Signed, Old faithful Tide user🥴

Amazing
Hands down THE BEST laundry soap I have EVER tried. It does have perfume in it but as a person with sensitive skin (I've been using Tide Free & Clear for 10 years) this does not affect me. It smells so dang good. Considering the price difference, I have made the switch.

Cleans well and affordable!
A great powder that cleans well! The scent is a little strong. Clean Freakz on TikTok rated this very high for its cleaning power!

Jeeves was right!
Like many others, I came to this detergent from Jeeves NY’s laundry testing experiment. I’d seen Ariel over the years but had written it off, assuming the cheap detergents were always diluted. That’s often the case, but not with this! At least as of December 2025 this was the top performing detergent tested! I tried it and a stain that wouldn’t come out with any other stain treatment or detergent came out on the first wash. I didn’t notice any difference in softness. For a load, I used 1/2 a cup of detergent using a kitchen measuring cup. It does not come with anything to measure with, so be prepared to use your own tools! I ordered a separate 1/2 cup scoop to use exclusively for laundry so my kitchen can have my measuring cup back, haha! Also, it comes in a plastic bag so you’ll want some airtight container to put this in. When I purchased the largest size of this detergent, it filled up two of the largest OXO Pop containers. It is HIGHLY fragranced though, beware! I am someone who loves a good scent and it was still a bit strong for me when using it but once the laundry was dried, it was a nice, not too overpowering scent in my opinion. When you’re pouring the detergent from the plastic bag into your container of choice, hold your breath if possible because the scent will be at its most intense then! You also don’t want to breathe in powder.
