NICE BASS BUT
VERY NICE BASS THAT PLAYS GREAT AND SOUNDS GREAT. THE ONLY ISSUE I HAVE IS THAT WHEN THE DETUNER IS IN THE OFF POSITION IT, THE ADJUSTMENT KNOB CAN BE EASILY MOVED AND WHEN YOU FLIP THE DETUNER LEVER IT IS NO LONGER IN TUNE. I WOULD RECOMMEND GETTING THE ONE WITHOUT THE DETUNER EVEN THOUGH ALL THE BASSES I OWN HAVE A DETUNER ON THEM THAT WORK REALLY WELL. THEY ARE HIPSHOT DETUNERS WHICH CANNOT BE PUT ON A STEINBERGER SO IF YOU NEED ONE YOU MUST GET THE BASS WITH THE PATENTED DETUNER. ALL IN ALL ...VERY NICE BASS AND I AM SURE I WILL REMEDY THE PROBLEM

What a surprise!
Been interested in the Steinberger since the mid-eighties but could never afford one. Been playing bass since the mid- 70s, off and on, and was playing regularly by the time the original Steinbergers came out. I was concerned about the construction and the sound, but they are both excellent. I was surprised how good this thing sounded right out of the box. I picked it up as a travel bass and have found myself playing it on a regular basis. The only minor issues are 1) due to the design the frets are 'shifted' making it a challenge to play without looking at your fretting hand, and 2) having to be stuck using the double ball strings. I've been using Rotosound and Dean Markley strings for years and it would be nice not to be limited to the double ball strings. The ability to drop tune is great. The XT2-DB detuner allows you to drop all the way down to a low B and it rivals the HipShot detuner on my custom P/J Hybrid bass. I don't use the feature much, but its good to know it's there if I need it. All things considered, this is an excellent bass for both beginner and mid-level players. For advanced players, this is a great travel bass to keep up your chops or play in small venues. Highly recommended!

nice bass
I used to play a p-bass but by the end of the gig my back would be sore. I bought this bass to give my back a break on a pretty merciless gigging schedule. I like almost everything about it with tbe exception of two things.1. The db tuner doesn't work as reliably as i would like, But i don't use it much so it's not as big a deal to me as it could be.2. Steinberger strings are proprietary with a ball on each end. I normally use elixir strings because they sound great longer, but that isn't an option on this guitar. I've seen a locking nut you can buy and install, but have not tried it.Overall i like and would recommend the bass, but i think it could be a little better.

Steinberger Spirit XT-2DB Standard Bass
This was an outstanding buy. I saved over $100 purchasing this direct. The product arrived timely and without any damage. I am currently enjoying the bass and it's many features. The bass is very lightweight due to it's unique body design and lack of a headstock. The bridge tuners are extremely accurate when tuning the instrument. I'm really enjoying the DB tuner feature which allows me to set up an alternate tuning for the low E string. Currently, I've found that this sounds best down to a C# versus all the way down to a B. However, I'm still experimenting with this awesome feature. The bass holds it's tune extremely well. During a performance or rehearsal, I never have to tune it once it has been initially tuned...even after hours of aggressive play. The only time it needs tuning is after sitting for a day or so and that's to be expected. Even then, the tuning adjustment is usually minor. My other surprise is how incredible this bass sounds. Even unprocessed, the bass has an incredible vibrant tone. The 2 pickups give you a lot of tonal varieties. The bridge pickup is snappy with a nice subtle rattle to it. The neck pickup is warm and smooth. Both pickups together produce a full rich sound. I ran this unprocessed through a keyboard amp and the pure, unprocessed sound of the 'Berger blew me away. Naturally, this gives a great foundation for using this bass through external signal processing. This is my first bass and I couldn't be more pleased with my choice.
