It did not come with all the screws needed for assembly. So the lid cannot be fastened. Also the heat plate is longer than the legs of the base. So the whole pot cannot stand up on its own. The metal heat plate is fastened to the bottom of the tub, which feels unsafe and a possible fire or electrical hazard.

Poor quality, and it has very sharp edges. When empty or little food is left, the dish moves up when the lid is open. It is not worth the money.

I must say I was thrilled then disappointed in this pan. I used it for a holiday celebration, and it worked perfectly. I went to use it again 2 months later and it started to work then began to smoke. Thinking it was my food I didn't think twice but then as the smoke thickened, I realized it was the chafing dish. Thank God it didn't start a fire. but it did not work after that, so it was tossed.

This electric chafing unit comes already pre-assembled, expect for the heating unit which you need to attach to the bottom tray with the nuts provided. It's straightforward. The alignment is a little funny but it will stay on and stay straight as long as you don't try to pull on the plug (which you should even try especially when it's hot). The heating unit/plate does protrude as one review mentioned, but easily fits under the back side of the chafing frame without issue. If you reverse the installation it probably doesn't fit. I tested the heat and it really didn't warp the metal, but I know warping is not uncommon with metal chafing dishes when hot, in general. The lid is a soft open/close. This is a nice feature but it also makes it feel slightly awkward when opening and closing but still, better than having the lid slam down, etc. Overall, the materials feel just fine. They are definitely not what I would consider commercial grade materials but great for repeatedly casual/home use. The heat control is straightforward to use as well. The highest setting will get your water warm in a few minutes but you probably want to pour already hot water into this if you want it to start working quickly. The only negative I would say is that removing the heating unit is awkward. After you wait for it to cool down, you'll probably want to remove the heating unit before dumping out the water, but it's a bit difficult because the the unit is on the bottom. You can feel for the nuts with your hands and you really only need to unscrew one of them. It's doable just a little clunky because you need to do this with a dish with water inside. Of course, you can just choose to dump the water first and then remove the heating unit, I just don't like the idea of the plug possibly getting wet. Overall, actually a great electric chafing dish. I'm not sure why it has negative reviews.
