I do not know where this item was manufactured as I bought this as a Christmas present for my young nephew and no longer have access to the box it came in. Please try contacting Amazon or the company that sells it through Amazon for the answer. The company that made and advertise this Magnet Kidz Lab on amazon is called 4M and they have a full page on Amazon. If you sign into |Amazon and then search 4M Kidz Magnetic lab when the advert for this product comes up clip on the Blue Highlight by 4M and then the information for 4M and the Magnetic Lab will be displayed. I hope this helps.

Would this be ok for a 4 year old?

yes I purchased for a 6 yr old, who loved it, but it would be suitable for younger with adult supervision
