One of the better models from the Revell stable
I was quite impressed with this model when I finally got round to spraying, painting and assembling this. Revell have made quite the effort with this model and there is a lot of small detail you don't usually find on this scale model. Most surprising was that they made a much greater effort with this one than with two 1/48th scale models from the same stable. Both of those were nice, but lacking in so many areas. This one just blows them out of the water.Internal details are nice, the airframe and primary details are clean and clear. The turrets rotate, guns elevate and the whole thing goes together nicely. Very little excess plastic or flashing to gut away, good quality plastic, clear instructions and a nice set of decals make this a pleasure to build and display. If they had only made half the effort on the two larger models that they made on this one...This is still quite a large model, even though it is at the smaller end of the model scale, the wing span is impressive even in a relatively small model and you do get quite an appreciation for the size of this bomber, even if you haven't seen one up close and real.I think this, along with a particularly good Lancaster I got a while back are two of my favourite models in my collection. They look splendid once painted and decked out with the available decals and a little but of attention to wear and weathering really makes it pop.A lot of very small parts and fiddly areas will make this a challenge for people new to modelling, but sometimes a challenge can be good, especially when the end result is so impressive. Not suitable for young people for the same reason - small pieces. Similarly, adult supervision may be advisable as there is a lot of cutting to do to make this model. Time to invest in a good pair of side-cutters if you haven't already.

The 17G Flying Fortress a great model
If you want a great model that will give you lots to do and loads of detail this is a great buy. I loved making it took about a week and the kit is very well made with lots of lovely detail to keep you busy. You will need to buy the paint if you do not have a stock of paint already it will be about 15 small Revell pots of paint plus you will need some decal fix and some filler in case you have any gaps to fill. The finished model looks really great but you really need to take it a step at a time and double check on the parts before gluing together. Revell kits are pretty good having made several now they have all been fun to make and nicely made. The instructions are clear and fairly easy to follow but I do tend to write out all the paint numbers on a separate a4 sheet of paper for refrence when making the model. So very happy with this model it was great fun to make and I know have wonderful model. If your going to make it make sure you have an airbrush for the paint job and some masking tape for the finer details.10 out of 10 for a very good model.

A high flying product!!
A decent model of a B-17 bomber, as a beginner of model building I did find it fiddly at parts, but for someone advanced in model building might find it easier.Once build and painted it was a decent mount piece to have in an office or a bed room! For the price I payed I thought it was worth it, the enjoyment that came from it as well was worth the price!!Great as a present for yourself or for a friend/ family

Disappointing
I've never been a big fan of Revell (I've only ever built planes so can't speak for the rest off their range) but decided to buy this based on positive reviews which talk about it not being typical Revell. On the positive there is some wonderful detail in this kit, particularly internally and the larger pieces are well moulded with little or no flash. Additionally there are a number of build options depending on the version you wish to build.Which brings me to my first point.....Instructions....can be vague at best, sometimes positively misleading and hard to follow. Make sure you really study them before commencing the build as the way options are laid out can easily lead to mistakes. I suggest you dry fit everything as again th instructions are often ambiguous regarding the final position of items. The sprue numbering system is insane with no continuity that I was able to fathom and I spent an inordinate amount of time searching for individual parts. In fairness there is a layout in the instructions but unless you have loads of space to layout spruces exactly per the diagram expect to be frustrated. The smaller (and I mean very small parts of this kit are a joke...badly formed, incredible amount of flash and the pin locations are worse than useless.....in 2023 you really need to do better Revell..even Airfix has improved its game.I've been building models for more years than I can remember but with all the skills I've accumulated I could not get the fuselage to fit properly. despite making loads of adjustments. You will need filler, and plenty of it.Lastly I don't know what plastic Revell use but it's just nasty to work with. It feels both brittle and soft at the same time.Revell classify this model as skill level 5 (the highest) and I wouldn't disagree with that.Ultimately this will turn out to be a beautiful plane, but only because I'm prepared to put hours into making it so and have both the resources, equipment and experience to do it.For me, I will be sticking to Tamiya and the like in future. They may be a little more expensive but the quality justifies the price (actually if I were to price up all of the additional costs incurred in making this model correct I doubt there is a price point differential)
