Very good printer
I took a lot of time comparing various printers. It's actually quite difficult to find one that has the features you need and has good reviews. It's also worthwhile looking at the cost of inks before you buy any printer. I'm very happy with this printer so far. The unit itself is excellent quality. It's much better than the other Canon printers I have considered. The setup was easy. I downloaded the software from the Canon website rather than using the included CD, to make sure I had the latest version. I prefer to connect using USB rather than WiFi and this works well, although there is no USB cable supplied with it. The print quality is good. The scanner works well. It prints relatively quietly too. Some Pixma printers are loud. It doesn't spend lots of time doing self-tests as some Pixmas do. The colour display on the front is excellent, although it has to be left flipped up for the paper to come out. The paper feed at the back is good, although it doesn't hold a huge amount of paper. I like the fact that it has individual ink cartridges rather than the combined colour ones. You can safely disregard the bad review here titled "... is quite poor - pay more and get a better printer" - I'm certain that that reviewer has mistaken this printer for another one. I can assure you that you will be happy with this printer. I haven't been paid to write that but I have spent such a lot of time comparing printers, most of which seem to have serious problems, that I want to let others know that this is one of the few good ones in this price range on the market at the moment.

Good value for the money and small enough to fit into any corner
After a long painful years of switching from canon to a Epson X700 that was just painfully annoying with stripes all over the shop and continues complains about low ink I am now again a happy owner of a Canon. I was aware that this printer does not do automatic 2 sided prints, what I did not anticipate is that the printer has no cartridge but only a paper feed at the back. The expectation was to have a decent easy to use reliable printer for school work for my kids with occasional photo prints. In short it does fulfil its job as such. Setup: Was reasonable on IOS and OSX. I was impressed that this printer scans its own print out for adjusting the heads. Wifi setup was trying its best to lure me into a 'easy setup trap' that I could escape without restarting the printer by hitting the red button to the right, guess its the print cancel button. After escaping the automatic wifi setup it was straight forward. Once on the network, OS X detected the printer and a minute later i had my first print. Mixed print quality: Text + image Photo 1) shows a close up of 5) show that text and picture quality is decent. It is definitely enough for school work. At closer inspection on the 2nd photo showing a close up one can see artefacts, striping on the letter D. Mind you this is a photo shot with a Nikon Micro Lens. Photo quality: On normal A4 paper it is acceptable. The attached photos (order mixed by Amazon): 1) text + image - close up , pic 5 shows full view 2) Cat printed from SD card, no post processing - close up 3) Cat printed via Wifi, enlarged - close up 4) Cat printed from SD card, enlarged, close up 5) text + image A4 prints 6) Cat printed via Wifi 7) Cat original JPG. 8) Cat printed from SD card, enlarged Price: Clearly a winner. I paid 100EUR for printer + 2 sets of ink from OfficeWorld https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B01EJ17YGS/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 10 pack XL cartridge for 13 EUR calculates to about 2 EUR for printing about 500 pages mixed B&W and colour. Even some laser printers struggle to archive this on paper. Practice will tell how truthful this is. Scan: Works via wifi out of the box on OS X. The Epson could not do this. Only downside is the printer does not scan to CD card but that is ok for me as I prefer direct to computer anyways. The interface to select the scan area is a bit small but neither an issue for me as I can always fix it in post. IOS: All I needed is to install the Canon PRINT inkjet/Selphy software. Setup tried something strange, connecting via bluetooth, basically had to escape it and avoid looking for help. After the auto bluetooth setup obstacle was over IOS detected the printer on 2nd attempt. Printing required to manually configure the paper to be A4 and after that it was streight forward. Conclusion: Unbeatable price/value. If you want a printer that you can stick into a corner or shelf this is the one.

Older but no wiser
This thing has been a pain from start to finish. Our old HP packed up just in time for wanting to do some high quality photo printing for a birthday card. Thinking I'd be smart I asked on Facebook who can recommend a printer other than HP that doesn't pack up after 3 years of not being asked to do very much? 'I'm very happy with my Canon' said a friend whose word I have no good reason to doubt. So Canon I bought. Let's not buy the cheapest, let's go lower mid-range to hopefully get some realiability and quality. Canon TS5050, just the pricepoint. First order, Amazon sent the wrong model. Now, fair enough, Amazon's clever warehouse system makes sure this hardly ever happens. Anyway, returned and re-ordered but now from a marketplace vendor. Arrived after a few days. All chance of making that birthday card in time blown - se la vie. So now I've spent nearly two days trying to get the thing to operate as a household network printer, both through our wireless hub and as a wireless direct, straight from device. I should say I've been putting computers and networks together most of my life so while I always expect the unexpected, I was not expecting the ear-steamingly challenging. Eventually got it working across the Wireless LAN from a Win 7 box, but absolutely no joy from a Win 10 laptop. Set the router hub connection to keep the DHCP address to hopefully make sure the working machine could still see the printer after switching it off to move it to its intended location. Moveed the printer, nothing worked. Lots of messing about in settings menus. Everything looked like it was supposed to look in the online manual. Still no happiness. So I gave in and took the coward's way out; hooked it up with a USB cable and now, viola, printing fine, though still getting the odd spurious Windows test print page, presumably from hung instances of the setup program. Finally printed a glossy photo. Beautiful results with way more true colours than the old HP managed. So now, all I've got to do is get the rest of the Win 10 boxes in the house to see the shared printer on a Win 7 workgroup. I'm pretty sure I've failed on that at least once before, but what are Sunday afternoons for?
