Is it small enough for a carry on case?

Yes. It fits for Ryanair (into their metal bag checker). It is a good size for a kid. I use it for my sons snacks, out door clothes and toys. It works best when you use smaller bags inside it to organise the stuff- otherwise it can turn into a bit of a mix...I like it and my son loves it- he is 4. It is fun for when you have to wait and a life saver in the immigration queue in the USA. Wish I'd bought it sooner when he was 3.
