Between the family we have all of the Ultimate Ears range, but the Boom2 is the best for value as you almost get the punchy sound of the Megaboom and has much better battery life and more functions, over the Roll 2.The build quality of this speakers is excellent and My Megaboom has taken a unexpected 8 feet fall onto a solid wood floor and still minus a little scuff functions perfectly.The best feature for me is having a pair of Boom2 speakers paired together as a stereo set using the app on the Iphone.They then sound awesome and are as good as any bluetooth speaker costing 3 times the price from Bose or B&W ect.Plus I doubt they would still work after a tumble or a bit of british rain.So to conclude we love the UE range and can't recommend highly enough. And We have used the pairing app to update the firmware and control the speakers without any problems. Many reviews seem to have problems with the app but is very logical and the easiest way to use all the functionality and get the most out of the speakers.Firmware update is essential if you want the speakers to play nicely together and only takes a couple of minutes over wifi or 4g.

Sound: Quality, good bass with a nice, enriched sound. I've heard speakers that can get louder, but really this gets as loud as you need to it be. Granted, I use this mainly for indoor use and less so for outdoor parties.Design: While it has a stripped back, simplistic design, it has clearly been made with a 'function over aesthetic' mindset. As a result, expect a barely noticeable cylinder of a speaker that performs well and is as durable as such a simple design implies; this speaker, as well as having waterproof capabilities, can endure more than a few tumbles down the stairs.App: The app compliments the speaker well, while it doesn't add much to the speaker in terms of functionality, it is useful to be able to turn on the speaker without actually having to go up to it and pressing the on button, and it is also useful for showing the battery percentage.Battery Life: The battery lasts a decent amount of time, though a little longer wouldn't have hurt. One gripe I have, though minor, is that while you can play the speaker while charging, you cannot if you begin charging it from dead, and it seems quite a long while until you pass this point. Wanting to belt some music and hearing, 'Charging, Please Wait,' in the voice of a robotic female that is trying her best, is a little anti-climactic.Overall, a great purchase, and one that I am very glad I made.

So I'm leaving this review in April 2023, four and a half years after I purchased it.What can I say? Just excellent, I use it every day. Sound quality is great, bluetooth is great, battery life is great and it's really flexible. Love it.The bass is not massive at low volumes but crank it up and wow, does it fill a space!The Boom range might seem a bit pricey but imho that's because it's made so well and does exactly what it's meant to.

I have had this speaker now since 2017 and not a single problem I have taken it to a few different countries etc Been In the water with it and it still works flawless to this day

This is a fantastic speaker: the "size", volume and quality of the sound is astonishing for a speaker of this size. It also feels robust, is easy to use and the battery lasts a good long time. As such it does everything I wanted and has exceeded my expectations. The sound quality and volume is particularly impressive. Speaker size will always limit the sound produced, but this speaker really delivers a sound far in excess of what you can reasonably expect from something this size. The sound detail and balance is also very good. Bass is surprisingly evident and balanced for such a small unit; I cant take seriously the reviews that criticise a lack of bass (or base ;-)! ). There's nothing wrong with the unit's bass unless you want an artificially bass-heavy sound, but I prefer my music to be natural and as recorded. To that extent this speaker excels.But the speaker drops 1 star because of the obscene plastic packaging that it comes in - see photo. This is too big to be used for carrying the speaker (given its robustness all that's needed is a small bag) so is useless and will be thrown away. A bag for the speaker and cardboard packing would be far more appropriate and I hate that UE supply this useless plastic packaging. Other than that the speaker is fantastic and I highly recommend it.
