I love it. The best uke on a budget or not!
I love it. I love it. My first ever uke was a Stagg soprano and I learned the bare minimum on that. My husband kept nicking my Stagg (guitar player interested in uke) so I got him his own Makala soprano (MK-S). I saw a massive difference between my Stagg and his Makala and I then kept nicking his Makala! I researched more about Makala and read rave reviews about them. They're highly recommended as a quality budget uke. They look the part. They look quality and they sound quality. I bought this concert Makala because I wanted something ever so slightly bigger than a soprano. As owners of a soprano Makala and a concert Makala we can tell you they have just a great sound to them. They don't sound 'plinky' as with ukuleles that are thrown together on the cheap. Every last inch of this feels like it's made properly. It has a nice loud sound to it and it isn't covered with paint which can inhibit sound. It's fantastic for the money.

Amazing uke. Shipped way faster than expected, though packaging was damaged in transit
Luckily the ukulele remained fine but the packaging/box is kinda beat up. Sound is very full and the uke plays very well even on higher frets. Great ukulele that will hopefully last me for a long time. Looks beautiful and the pictures accurately show this. The tuners are alight, though I realise that my c string tends to slip out of tune more than the others. Overall, definitely well worth the price tag!

Pleasing Ukulele for a low price
As a novice to the world of ukulele playing I was not prepared to spend too much on a ukulele. However I didn't want to go for one of the really budget ukuleles so decided to spend a bit more and get the Kala Makala. Based on the advice a few of the reviews I also bought some Aquila strings to go with it. I found the ukulele had quite a nice clean sound and much preferred it to my friend's Mahalo Ukulele. I also thought the strings weren't too bad; after about 2 weeks they settled down and it no longer needs to be tuned every few minutes. They are also softer and more forgiving on the fingers than the Mahalo strings. I have decided to save the Aquila strings until either a string breaks or until I improve a bit in my playing (whichever comes first). I would definitely recommend this as an entry level ukulele. I love it.

Best beginner instrument I've used
Great for the money. Sounds amazing, very loud, even the smallest soprano one. Strings provided are fine, looks beautiful. Only down points (and where you're saving money) is the finish, they haven't sanded and varnished the bridge which you wouldn't notice really unless you took a hard look at it. And it gets muffled further up the fretboard (which you probably wouldn't be using as a beginner uke player anyway).

Great little instrument
I bought this as a first uke having played guitar for years. Mainly I was interested in learning how the chords were formed. I was not disappointed in this at all, it gives a great sound and is fun to learn on. I upgraded the strings and it made a huge difference. Surprisingly easy to learn and with a few of the different coloured song books I was playing songs in no time. The action is good as the tone of the instrument, I would be in no hurry to upgrade anytime soon. For the money I found it great value.

a word of caution on this fantastic little instrument
okay, have you been on youtube and seen what this sucker can do? its amazing, it, i am sure, will sound even better when i have fitted the aquila strings to it. It is a credit to its seller victor morris on amazon, great service, speedy delivery, fan-tastic value for money and yet.... i, unlike every review before me that i have seen and much to my own disappointment, realise this is not the instrument for me. After about 10 minutes playing i realise that having this great instrument in my hand is a bit like watching lord of the rings when you see the elves and the humans and think wow how cool, but look the hobbits can do it too on a smaller punchier kick ass fun kind of way, and thats just it. I have this preconception, this mindset, that if i want a serious instrument with lots of frets and a slim neck (my fingers are a bit big for this) then i miss the whole point of why i like playing ukulele, i should buy another six string guitar instead. This one wont fit in a back pack so easy, this one isn't a laugh, it's in fact, quite the grown up, a bit too serious for me. If you value your music ability and want to explore uke's to their next level after the cheap soprano's and the smallish concerts go for it, but if you play ukulele and know that you don't look cool with it, that it's fun to get something out of so little a sized package (no innuendo intended honest), that your sausage like fingers are better suited to chords and picking rather than amazing high fretwork solos then find something shorter with a fatter neck. verdict -great instrument- beware your own fat fingers!

Well Worth The Money- excellent quality, appearance and lovely resonant pleasing sound.
I'm so happy with this item that I took the time to given well deserved feedback. I bought it as a gift for my 30 ish sister Excellent service Excellent packaging and speedy delivery Excellent item Lovely sound even with the stock strings- nice and resonant- you do have to tighten up the gears a little first as expected. Uke is pleasingly compact and despite having a 'deeper' soundbox- is still nice and small. The colour and build are lovely, both in appearance and build quality. A genuinely lovely gift which I imagine would work for more than a beginner. Fab!
