Great, quick read
This book is awesome! The fist half is a very engrossing story about a young man heading off on his own. The second half is good information about this plant.

Must have for all ethnobotanists
I am happy to include this book in my library. It is a relatively thorough, yet simple and easy to understand, history of opium poppies and traditional cultivation. It begins with a short fictional story of a young man following in his father's father's father's footsteps, then goes into a "how-to" and short chemisty chapter. I'm sure you could find all of the info from Wikipedia and forums, but it was nice to sit down and not have to search the web.A quick read (maybe an hour or two). What I liked most was the message of de-criminalizing plant "drugs" and instead teaching responsibilty and respect. Will pass this book on to gardener friends interested in this remarkable flower.

Ch'ien the mentor, traveler, and gardener is a journey in the teachings and ways of his family culture. The book provided me with many visuals and the ability to drift off and work along side him. Ch'ien's writings will also have a special place in my library and not simply for beauty for the voyage as well.

Dairy of apoppie farmer
I bought this book thinking I would get tips on how to start a field of poppies. This was an entertaining book about one mans life as a poppy farmer. No helpful hints about growing poppies. I did enjoy the book but was not what I was wanting so I only gave it three stars. I hope this was a helpful review.

A quirky little book that combines fact and fiction. A lovely short story followed by interesting factual details.

Details on taking care of the plants + some science. Bad fonts are an eye strain.
The font color used in the book is grayish/checkered ink instead of plain black characters as it should be. Published on demand? Small scale printing? But price is not cheap. Checkered fonts diminish the pleasure to read the book (it strains the eyes), makes book cheap looking- beside the fact that the book is thin and also softbound.Part of the book provides an original perspective: the perspective of a hard working grower who struggles for a living/feed his family. The migrating grower's story is a bit slow/long but one can not complain that it can not be understood! Interesting details on optimizing milking by careful cutting of the surface vessels, etc. Then follows more scientific info.in summary it provides info not found elsewhere. For the curious anthropologist or to increase general knowledge.Published by Ronin Publishing of Berkeley CA : 'Books for Independent Minds'.Unique PDF catalog online.[...]
