Sturdy and leak proof but it loses a lot of heat and the lid assembly is problematic.
The Pelican Dayventure Tumbler is comfortable to hold, and when sealed shut is quite leakproof. There is no way to accidentally open it once it's closed properly. I like the thin lip to drink from and the "well" between the spout and the top of the lip is helpful for not burning your lips on hot coffee.Unfortunately, you're not going to have a lot of opportunity to burn your lips anyway because this tumbler does an abysmal job of holding heat. It is double wall vacuum insulated...you're not going to lose heat there, but the lid is not insulated at all. It's just a single layer of Tritan polymer (plastic) that seems to be quite good at letting heat escape. How good? I filled the tumbler with 195 degree water sealed it shut. I opened it every half hour for 10 seconds to measure the temp with a Thermapen. It lost nearly 20 degrees in the first half hour. At the end of 3 hours it had lost 70 degrees. That's twice as much heat loss as the best in class Thermos King Tumbler that only lost 31 degrees in 3 hours. (The King has other design issues, but heat loss isn't one of them!)The most frustrating part of the Pelican tumbler is the lid assembly. You need two hands to open and close it and it's fairly likely to open in a way that could make a hot mess. I tried to type a clear explanation here but it was confusing...so I just made a short video to show what I could not type.At the end of the day, I can't recommend this tumbler.
