One year later, success!
I am a 66 year old nurse practitioner and grandmother. On 7/6/15 I started on the Gut Balance Revolution food plan. I was working in a motorized wheel chair and using crutches for RSD in my left foot and I wore a fracture boot on my left foot because it hurt too much to wear a shoe. I could not go up and down stairs because of sever arthritis in my left knee and continued pain one year after a total knee replacement in my right knee. Today I am 40 lbs lighter, no longer take Naproxen for pain, Metamucil for constipation, or Valium for esophageal spasms. I am out of the wheel chair (I gave it away!), no longer use crutches, and can wear shoes, even heels! I still have RSD with neuropathic pain, but it is significantly improved. I am walking up and down stairs with minimal knee pain. Today I did a hill workout on the treadmill at level 5 for an hour! The Gut Balance Revolution didn't just give me my life back, I feel better than I did in my 20s! I remain at level 2 because if I eat foods off the orogram my pain is much worse. I will be eating like this for the rest of my life! Thank you Dr. Mullin!!!

A bit hard to navigate, but full of brilliant information
There's such important information in this book that I'm giving it four stars despite the three-star-ish organization of the text.Others have commented about how "too much science" makes getting at the "guts" (ha ha) of the actual diet in this book a little frustrating and slow. It's true. I made my way through it laboriously, but I use this Kindle version mostly for the search function, to check on whether certain foods are Favor, Few, or Forget when I'm at the grocery store or reading recipes.I have taken its three phases, its superfoods lists, and its theories to heart and have been living in phase 2 for a while now. I'm also tracking my actual calories because a) I don't mind doing it and b) I don't trust myself with food any other way. So when I say that I haven't yet begun to lose any of the substantial amounts of weight the book describes, I can also say that besides following the Phase 2 guidelines, I'm also consuming a number of calories that I would expect to result in quite a slow weight loss.I've been 100% sugar-free and grain-free for several months, and now that I'm adding in more probiotics and prebiotics according to this plan, I'm experiencing some wonderful changes: easy digestion, even-keel energy and moods, utter lack of old unhealthy cravings, an unprecedented ability to put my fork down before my plate is empty. I'm de-bloating, my cheekbones are returning, age spots on my hands are fading, and my mind is clearer. What's more, I'm enjoying a variety of foods that I never used to think about (kimchi, miso, cayenne...). This plan makes it easy to dine out without looking weird (though probably not at chain and fast-food places). Honestly, even if this plan doesn't result in much weight loss for me, I will never go back to the Standard American Diet. I'm convinced that my health and wellbeing depend on restoring and maintaining good gut health, and that nothing could be worse for me than to return to sugar, starch, and not enough yummy ferments and vegetables. I'm a changed person.

) Be aware at 1st I felt meal prep and shopping for different types of food felt like a full time job to me
We purchased this book on the suggestion of my husbands Nurse Practitioner for his IBS. My husband read the book and I followed the meal plans and prepared the meals. My husband was able to stop taking medications for his stomach and lost about 17 pounds and I lost about 10 that I've been attempting to rid myself of for past few years. My husband has raved about it to everyone he sees and has probably help sell at least a 1/2 dozen books for you. I keep telling him he should just stock up on them and hand them out to people :) Be aware at 1st I felt meal prep and shopping for different types of food felt like a full time job to me. It does work best to do together and be able to support one another.

This is the best book on healthy eating I've read in ages
This is a beautifully written piece of work that has changed my life. I've battled weight problems my entire adult life, doing everything short of the bypass procedures to cure myself. A friend pointed me towards this book and I found it to be an epiphany. Mullin writes with academic rigor (with fully referenced research papers for every claim he makes) but also makes a clear and compelling case for leveraging our gut biomes as a part of dealing with a lot of modern maladies. Since setting out on the journey he outlines in this book, I've lost weight, gained control over my compulsive eating, and seen a steady improvement of my health on fronts ranging from indigestion to depression. It's been a long time since I read anything so coherent and powerful.

This science works!
This science works! Recommended by a doctor, I bought the book. Dr. Gerry described my lifelong history exactly. The solid science behind his understanding convinced me to try. With the help of my wife, we started in mid February. Six weeks later my wife exceeded her goal of losing 20 pounds. Now, 18 weeks later, I have lost 54 pounds and am 4 pounds away from my doctor's weight goal. My wife has maintained her weight by simply eating as we learned. Finally, someone who understands my problem, science that offers understanding, and a solution that works. Thank you, Dr. Gerry!

Excellent but easier as printed version?
I'm not American, hence the missing 5th star. Very much aimed at US where they eat HFCS, corn fed meat laced with hormones and antibiotics and drink sweet "sodas". The language is initially irritating but then it recovers, becoming clear and impressive. The real content is excellent - detailed and helpful. The presentation is good. Lots of useful lists. Flipping back and forth is necessary so the printed version might be more accessible, although there are numerous links.A practical follow up to Tim Spector's The Diet Myth. Clear eating guidelines plus " lifestyle " ways to work on your gut microbiome. It introduced me to new "superfoods". I look forward to putting the advice to work.

American but still a clear message with easy to follow guidance.
Aimed at the American market it doesn't always translate to European food standards. However, the messages are clear and it is extremely informative. Written in a very easy style, it is easy to understand but does get a bit repetitive and delivers the messages rather slowly, perhaps to really hit his message home. There are interesting case studies which also emphasise his message. The lists of foods to eat and to avoid are very helpful. The menus are also helpful though very American and so need some transposing into British foods. Overall it was interesting and informative but I agree with the other reviewer who said it would be more useful in hard copy so that going back to references would be easier.
