best addition to the toothpaste I have been making for ...
I don't have any other calcium carbonate powder to compare it with since this is my first go at it, but this is the newest, best addition to the toothpaste I have been making for years. This powder is fine and fluffy with no noticeable grit, and also dissolved easily in water when I added it as a supplement for my 94-year old grandma. It has no taste at all, so it's also great in smoothies, hot cereal, or however you want to use it.As to the toothpaste application: I have seen lots of mention of wellnessmama.com's recipe, which is good, but in my opinion this (recipe below) is even more beneficial because of the extra whitening , anti-inflammatory, and anti-microbial action of turmeric (yes, turmeric WHITENS teeth!) which solved a years-long problem I used to have of bleeding gums every time I brushed. Also, bentonite clay actively removes toxins, like whatever leeches from the old-school silver fillings I still have. Finally, the combination of the magnesium, calcium, and silica from the diatomaceous earth** makes the minerals maximally absorbable when brushing. At the time I started making & using this toothpaste I was starting to feel soreness in 2 of my back molars as well as temperature sensitivity and was getting worried about a huge impending dental bill. It only took a couple of months before the problems disappeared.Yes, you can heal your teeth, no matter what they tell you. Besides, ALL of these ingredients have multiple uses in my house and are extremely beneficial in multiple ways. Here's what I did (measurements are approximate, adjust for texture):**with diatomaceous earth as a mild abrasive, you really don't need baking soda, but if you want to take advantage of its alkalizing and antibacterial power you can add a bit less of it in proportion to the other powders. I personally don't like the taste so I started leaving it out.DO NOT LET THIS COME IN CONTACT WITH METAL OR USE METAL UTENSILS AS IT WILL DE-ACTIVATE THE BENTONITE CLAY.1) Mix equal parts (around a teaspoon) calcium powder; food grade diatomaceous earth; organic turmeric powder; and a couple pinches of cinnamon and/or ginger powder together.2) Moisten 2 teaspoons bentonite clay (calcium bentonite clay is better for this, but either type will work) by slowly adding to about a tablespoon of distilled water while stirring. Let it sit to absorb the water and mix til you get the silky paste you would normally use for a face mask.3) Gradually add your powders into the clay while stirring to blend.4) Pour about 2 teaspoons magnesium oil over the mix and blend well.5) Add around 10 drops cinnamon essential oil. Not only is it anti-bacterial and freshening but it tastes good. (Don't overdo this as too much will cause a burning sensation.)6) Last, add around 2 teaspoons organic virgin coconut oil in liquid form and however much beyond that to get the texture you are going for.* I don't personally sweeten this blend, but if you really want to you can add 1/4 teaspoon of Xylitol powder.A couple of notes:-I have found that popsicle sticks are the best thing to mix this stuff with as it lets me smooth out any chunks, and it tends to gunk up on most plastic silverware because of the way it is shaped.-Between all of these ingredients, you have a nice, anti-microbial mouth-freshening toothpaste which detoxifies your whole mouth as well as provides minerals to your tooth in their most available form. I know I will NEVER buy commercial toothpaste again. Try it and comment on how it works for you!-In combination with the ancient Ayurvedic practice of oil-pulling, while using this toothpaste mix I have not only had no dental issues but also haven't gotten so much as a common cold in almost five years. It truly is the cheapest dental insurance plan you can buy!! (On oil-pulling: http://foodmatters.tv/articles-1/oil-pulling-the-habit-that-can-transform-your-health)

Read this before using in toothpaste:
This seems to be the best value available for food grade calcium carbonate. It is very fine: powdery and fluffy. Perfect for toothpaste. I bought it to make the remineralizing toothpaste found here: wellnessmama.com/2500/remineralizing-toothpaste/ However, after testing that recipe and comparing it to a simpler (cheaper!) version, I've found that the same result can be achieved with a smaller set of ingredients. Simply pour a half-n-half (more or less of each, depending on how much mineralizing you think you need) ratio of baking soda and calcium into your desired container (these bottles are squeezy and perfect), filling the container up until there's about an inch or two of room at the top, then slowly mix some water in until the toothpaste is your desired consistency (I've found that a slightly wetter texture than a commercial toothpaste is optimal). Don't worry if you get it too wet -- just mix in some more baking soda and calcium, then add a few drops of spearmint, peppermint, or cinnamon oil. There are some disparaging claims floating around the internet regarding the safety of using baking soda and/or calcium carbonate on your teeth. These are simply wrong, and ridiculous. Toothpaste companies (Colgate, in particular) are the ones perpetuating the abrasivity myth. If you have concerns check out this: www.sheltondentistry.com/patient-information/article-toothpaste-abrasivity/ and this: www.mineralstech.com/Pages/SMI/Toothpaste.aspx Both baking soda and calcium carbonate are actually less abrasive on your teeth than all commercially available toothpastes and powders, even Sensodyne.

Didn't work for my "acid reflux"
Wasn't worth buying for me. I had to give this three stars because I bought it for acid reflux before I found out I might not have acid reflux. Acid reducer medication makes me feel worse and so does this product, even though I only used a small pinch of it once every couple days or so. If you're gonna try to use this for acid reflux, 1) make sure that's the actual health problem you have 2) don't use a large quantity and 3) monitor how your body reacts to it.

Quick ship. Happy with powder.
Was shipped quickly from the vendor. I am using it to make my own tooth powder as the store brand toothpastes tended to cause me more problems than they helped and caused a lot of sensitivity. Original recipe from Internet called for calcium magnesium citrate but there was some kind of interaction with the other ingredients and I noticed bubbling when I wet the tooth powder. So much for recipes off the Internet. I guess some of the "healthy" moms don't always test their recipes and mainly want the advertising revenue off their websites. I don't know that the bubbling is harmful in anyway but it certainly looked weird on my toothbrush. I looked at the "natural organic" toothpastes at my local health food store and noticed they used calcium carbonate so I ordered this powder. Should last me quite some time and doesn't bubble up when I wet my tooth powder. Cost was reasonable at the time of purchase and I'm happily using it in my tooth powder.
