Great Little Product!
We are very happy! We typically used a larger propane one for "dirty or scrap metals", but decided to purchase this one specifically for clean metals. It's simple to use, and best of all, it's so quiet. Heat is evenly distruputed. It does take a while to heat up, but we expected that with electric vs. Gas.We did have the heating element go out on us after a few uses, but the company that manufactured it was very accommodating and gave us a replacement part as well as ano t her crucible. They stayed in constant communication during and after transit. Overall satisfied.

My Introduction to Smelting
I have been wanting to get a metal furnace for a long time and this one was recommended the most to me. After using it for four separate melts, I can confidently say that this furnace has amazing value and is perfect for any beginner. The kit included everything that I needed for smelting. I'm glad its electric so I don't have to spend money on a tank of propane that I would have no other use for. The crucible heats up pretty fast and overall operates great.

Good beginner setup
I started using an electric furnace primarily for jewelry vacuum casting about 20 years ago. I have a better-quality Kerr brand furnace that does a much better job than this one, but it cost about 3 times as much, for just the furnace and a single crucible. I purchased this about a year ago and have just taken the time to try it out. I got this to play around with non-precious metals. This is not a machine for scrappers as another has mentioned in their review. I'd like to point out, the crucibles are consumables and will have to be replaced over time. I've put a total of about 30 hours of use on it so far melting copper, brass and aluminum (I dedicate a separate crucible for each metal). It handles brass and copper fairly well, aluminum not as much. It should also be able to handle gold and silver as well as it does with the brass and copper. It will handle aluminum in smaller amounts, using very clean/new unoxidized metal. To me it seems like the lower temperature of the aluminum doesn't get the entire crucible hot enough to do larger melts. Only about the bottom 3rd of the flask seems to get hot enough. I can consistently get about 6 ounces to a pour, that's it, or about 2 mini muffins sized ingots worth of aluminum. From my experience using this so far, I would only try to use the 1 or 2 kg crucibles, the 3's are too much for it for any metals. I have done multiple pours from 3 separate crucibles each and all 3 appear to be holding up as well as the Kerr crucibles. The heat-resistant stone lining and the inside of the lid will develop some small cracks, it even happened to my Kerr furnace. The bad: It's a cheaply made electric furnace that's not likely going to melt any metals to the maximum amounts it says it will. The good: It's cheap and it works and comes with all the basics you need to use it. It can be used more easily and in a smaller space than a gas furnace and is a bit safer to use.If melting metals is something new for you, this would not be a bad setup to start out experimenting. If you use a torch for melting for jewelry casting, this would be a nice upgrade. Most tools tend to oversell their max ratings, this does fall short by even that standard. Quality control is typically lacking in cheap tools like this, so if you get one make sure you can test it out immediately so you can do an Amazon return if you get a dud.

Didn't even melt aluminium
I bought this machine in the hopes of melting aluminum can tabs. It does not do that. It does not get hot enough to pour. The crucibles pit after the first use, and then the metal melts enough into the pited bits to stick to it to the point that you can't get the metal puck out once it's cool. Then when you use anything to get the puck out the crucible breaks. Just for the record, yes, I turned it up all the way in the hopes that it would melt the metal only once I realized it wasn't pouring at the recommended temperature. Yes, I preheated it and followed all the instructions. As a side note, the paint chipped off on the very first use as well. It's a piece of junk. Don't waste your money. I would give it zero stars if I could.
