Great Steinway Piano Light
The lamp was a perfect fit for the piano's score holder. And its finish added majesty to the already beautiful piano. The lamp's light spread was excellent.

Perfect for My Black Baby Grand Piano
This piano lamp is exactly what I was looking for. The black lamp blends in nicely with my black piano. It seems to be well made, fits easily on the music stand, and is easily adjustable. Some reviewers have complained about having the roll clamp switch being located behind the music stand, but I think that is a perfect location. I don't think it's inconvenient to have it there, and I like it can't be seen from the front. I am very happy with my purchase!

Nice looking, but not perfect
This lamp looks great on my grand piano and provides ample light. It was easy to install onto the piano, and easy to insert the lightbulbs. I would have preferred a switch on the end of the lamp housing itself rather than the in-line switch, but it works fine. The description seems to imply that there is a clamp near the in-line switch, presumably to keep the wire from dangling into the piano, but there isn't one on mine.Update after a few months of use: I've noticed that when playing the piano, certain bass notes cause a resonance frequency that makes this lamp vibrate and buzz. I have been unable to adjust the lamp in a way that it will not buzz.Update after a year: The lamp is still holding up nicely. I was able to greatly reduce buzzing harmonics from the lamp by adjusting the sockets inside the hood to make sure that the light bulbs do not contact or rub against the metal housing. This adjustment need to be done every few months as the socket fixture has a tendancy to move over time.

Excellent light for a music stand
This light is great for use on a music stand. With two light bulbs, it easily casts light over the entire music stand. I don't like the blue light that you get from LED lamps. The bulbs that you use in this lamp can be either clear for lots of bright light, or soft for a more subtle light. I personally buy the clear bulbs for my aging eyes.It is expensive compared to most clip on LED stand lights but you won't buy another one after you have used this lamp. Cannot recommend highly enough.I use this lamp on sturdy Manhasset music stands.

Perfect piano light.
I got referred to House of Troy products by a piano store and I glad I followed up! This light is exactly what I was looking for. With two 40 watt bulbs the lighting is perfect! The craftsmanship is over the top and the look is beautiful!

Not even designed as a Piano Lamp - front heavy, inflexible, bad on/off switch location
OK, I guess I get to give the "minority report". This was a big splurge for me. Bought it for my piano to replace a lamp that sits on top of the piano... I wanted to keep the lid open and still have light on my music, so I needed this type of lamp. The quality is fine. I wanted brass but heeded another reviewer's warning about reflection/glare, so I ordered brown. It's pretty expensive for what you get, but if it functioned nicely, I'd be completely happy.Clipped it to my music deck. Several problems. First, it bangs into the piano lid when the lid is open. Maybe I could blame that on the piano design, but anyway, I started to adjust the gooseneck forward so it didn't bang into the lid, and found that the whole thing is so heavy that it pulls the music deck (or should I say, the hinged vertical board on which you place your sheet music) forward. I had to wrangle the thing to keep the weight balance back so that the board doesn't fall forward. It's still barely weighted enough to keep the board in place. I'm not sure how to deal with this; I guess I need to find a way to immobilize the board. Also, the gooseneck is way too long for use on a piano. It only needs to lean forward a little and point the light downward. The gooseneck is something like 14" long when 6" would be plenty. So I can't pull it forward or the music deck board would fall forward and I wouldn't have a place to put my sheet music. I have to pull it straight up then curve is sharply downward to keep it balanced. One reason for this kind of design - which isn't mentioned on this listing - it's designed as a way to light a picture frame. It's not even designed as a piano light. But they did a good job of marketing it as such on the Amazon listing. The on/off switch is about 5" down on the power cord, you know, like on cheap lamps. Very inconvenient. I have to reach around behind the hinged board and hunt around for it to turn the light on and off.Mentioned in other reviews, there are no light bulbs included! Mine takes two light bulbs. These aren't bulbs you're likely to have sitting around the house. The base appears to be the standard size but you need a cylindrical shaped bulb to fit in the light. I really can't figure the rationale for not including bulbs in an expensive light fixture. On the plus side, it's "handcrafted by Vermont artisans, designed and built to stand the test of time." Great. It will never break, I guess, so I'll never have to replace it with one that works better for my needs (and probably many other pianists as well).

Nice But Defective
I bought this as a gift for my brother. It's a nice enough lamp, but arrived with a defect that blew the circuit breaker in his house repeatedly. When I visited, I looked at it, and being a guy with an electrical background, I was able to fix it.One of the bulb sockets had a defect where the tang that connects to the center of the bulb was bent over backwards creating a short. I was able to bend the tang back over into the correct position. However, this is an example of poor quality control which should not happen at this kind of price. The lamp is otherwise attractive, apparently decently made, and as advertised. If this item had arrived in working condition, I would give it 4-1/2 stars (if that were possible). Since it was defective but fixable, I am giving it 3 stars.
