excellent customer service by Miller got my fount working!
i hesitated to purchase this because i read reviews that it doesn't always work but i really wanted to try because it seemed like the most practical waterer out there.sure enough, mine arrived but had a leak above the control tube cap on the stem assembly. i contacted Miller and they immediately sent me a replacement stem assembly. works like a charm and was worth the extra effort.

Works great!
I installed this watering bowl by running it off of my irrigation line and using pex pipe and fittings. A few adjustments to the internal mechanism and it was putting out a consistent amount of water and refilling automatically. I did have one glitch where it didn't turn off and was overflowing, but I shook it and it started working again. I assume there was some dirt caught in the mechanism, so now I empty it every night when putting the chickens in the coop to clean it. I still haven't found that sweet spot where the chickens can drink from it but minimal dirt is kicked in the bowl. Overall I am happy with this product. It's easy to install, maintain, and repair if needed.

Excellent Idea, Disappointing Product
The media could not be loaded. Initially this product worked phenomenally, exactly as advertised. I didn't have any issues going with the 1/2 to 3/4 connection because I had buried some PVC from my faucet to the chicken coop area - you can see in the picture that the bowl is filled and no water is flowing = working perfectly.Fast forward a few days and I go into the run to a huge puddle of water .. Upon further inspection the bottom of the brass flow valve just continued to slowly drip (video). So even after gravity pulled the spring to stop the water from flowing, the tip continued to flow ... The birds can't drink the water fast enough to get it to stop.Really disappointing.UPDATE:I went a purchased valve cores and a valve removal/replacement tool at autozone, similar to this: Slime 20088 4-Way Valve Tool with 4 Valve Cores, once replaced the unit no longer leaks. Not sure if they use subpar parts or what ... but it now works and I have extras. The whole fix costs me $3 with tax.

awesome once worked on
ordered 2 of these and both leaked where the main tube meets the smaller nut. Totally disassembled and fixed the misaligned screen and re-attached the water hose adapter. With these wrench tight, I was able to use pliers and hold the main tube and rotate it around some which allowed for the flared end to seat properly in the smaller nut and stop the leak. most likely, there was a bur on each flare preventing it from sealing correctly. Adjustment to the water depth was extremely easy and the bowl doesn't over fill and the birds have clean water without us having to refill them daily. If the bowl gets dirty, its easy to dump out or remove for better cleaning without turning water off. I would recommend and will buy again.

Chicken automatic water bowl.
I had the smaller version for about 7 years. It worked great, with proper cleaning and routine maintenance on the water stem, my chickens always had water. I have about 30 chickens and it seemed to be sufficient for the flock. I have mine set up on a 50g barrel. The only reason I'm buying another is my goats got in my chicken pen and rammed it to pieces.

Improvement Over Hand Watering
Great idea with some downsides. I'm a vegetable and fruit grower. I started raising laying hens last season. I set up three of these water founts and used them for about 7 months. About once a month or so one would go offline, usually because of clogging or small malfunctions. Not a big deal when compared to hand watering every day but an issue. Also they have a tendency, just like the manual waterers, to accumulate chicken waste, dirt and other contaminates in the bowls. This is not a deal ender because they're also easy to clean out.I greatly expanded my flock this year and upgraded to the nipple style drinkers made by a company called Ziggity. The nipple drinkers are the perfect solution to all your poultry watering needs: they don't clog, they stay clean, and your litter will remain drier overall. Nipple drinkers are widely available, I believe a few companies make them, and they are a huge decreaser of work load and increaser of chicken health. They work for small flocks of a few chickens all the way up to hundreds or thousands. You can hook it right in to your garden hose or even easily attach it to a five gallon bucket (check out youtube). Also, the birds will learn to use them in seconds. My first group of chickens that were used to the Fount Waterer went right over to the nipple drinkers and started drinking as soon as we had it set up. FarmTek sells them as complete kits, or you can talk to a distributor and have them send you the perfect components for your system. Don't be intimated by a new watering system, nipple drinkers are easy to use and your chickens will love it.

All the reviews are correct but it’s an easy fix
So the water bowl does continue to fill once full. But it’s a very simple correction There is a Schrader valve just like the type in a bicycle tire or a car tire located at the bottom of the valve. It’s very loose after tightening it stop the bleeding by I have 85 PSI water pressure and now it works great.

Easy peazy watering system
So far so good on this watering bowl. We had been filling another waterer up and packing to the chicken pen. It was becoming a real pain. We bought this and made a watering system with plastic barrel. Now they have fresh water that automatically fills the bowl. It was extremely easy to hookup. Wish we would have done this months ago

It is a bit frustrating to set up
I almost returned this, but finally found a friend that figured out the valve itself needed tightening otherwise, the water just free flowed. I googled the product help videos on youtube and none described what needed to be done to make it work. Thankfully it's no longer overflowing and working as intended, so I rate four stars based on the poor set up instructions.
