Arcade Britannia: A Social History of the British Amusement Arcade (Game Histories)

I have been eagerly waiting for this book to be released for a long time now and I have to say that it is so much better than I could have imagined.Many of us grew up in UK arcades in the 70s 80s and 90s and like me I am sure you are filled with nostalgia when looking back at these times. Unlike the US though, the UKs arcade history has been poorly documented up until this point, this book changes that! Giving a comprehensive timeline from the industry's very early days right through to modern day there is something for everyone.Arcade Britannia is an absolutely fascinating read from start to finish filled with stories and information taken from interviews from the key players in the UK arcade scene to give an incredible insight in to what was going on behind the scenes back then. I recommend this book highly to anyone with even a passing interest in arcades right up to the most ardent arcade enthusiast.

Today's mini-review is an excellent new book from Dr Alan Meades a principal lecturer in games design at Canterbury Christ Church University.I have been waiting for a book like this for a long while. Finally, we have a book on the British perspective of the arcade scene.This is the complete history of the UK arcade scene and it's a fascinating and insightful read. I have learnt a lot of stuff I didn't know and it also brought back memories I had forgotten about.With interviews and source material from first-hand accounts, this book is a real page-turner.The thing I enjoyed the most was seeing some rare photos and trade publications I just wish there were a few more included in the book.Arcade Britannia is 263 pages of poor nostalgia and the memories this book invoked back to me were wonderful.I really do miss the 80s and 90s seaside arcades and if you are like me you are going to love this book.I give Arcade Britannia a 🕹️🕹️🕹️🕹️ out 5.Thanks, Jay (Forever Arcade Facebook Group)
