LuxHaus 58mm Espresso Tamper - Premium Barista Coffee Tamper with 100% Flat Stainless Steel Base

This is a great tamper. The weight makes it feel quality, heavier than others I've tried, and the fit is perfect for my 58mm portafilter. Base is quality steel (no signs of cheap moulding). Not sure what the handle is made of but it feels cool to the touch, quality and it screws off if you need that. Comes in a good quality box (e.g. for gift giving) and a slightly useless cheapish pouch. Good buy or gift for any espresso maker.

This has been a part of my espresso workflow for a year and I am very pleased with it. Flat and smooth machined bottom surface. Looks classic and handsome. It's built out of two pieces: a handle that screws onto the base; the handle screws on tightly and never comes apart by accident; the screw threads are clean and have not seized or galled. Has a nice weight to it, which helps to achieve a consistent level tamp. The traditional handle shape works well for my small hands, and also for people with bigger hands. A significant upgrade from the Breville stock tamper, but also a great choice among the many other junky options out there.

One can find himself buying more and more accessories, blaming maybe his 'simple' tools to the reason for his mediocre brew when it is his skill that is to blame; this tamper is simple but solid! It seats very nice and (after good amount of practice) helps me brew wonderful shots, ones that the hole puck ooze simultaneously, that the color of the stream hardly changes changes and shots that start dripping only after 6 to 8 seconds and gets to 1:2 ratio after around 28 seconds. I love its simplicity, its weight in the hand, its curved handle and the sloped edje that helps me feel if the puck surface is leveled or not. Expert tip - drink your espresso from a thick walled cup who was sitting in the freezer, life changing!

After several years using a lighter weight tamper (which I thought was awesome), I have now upgraded to this tamper, which has improved the quality of my coffee life! The reason this is superior to my old tamper is because this one is heavier. It's like a perfect little weighted thing that feels heavy and sinks into the coffee. It's as if they took five pounds and condensed it into this little tool. Pretty nifty. Another reason this tamper is making my coffee better is because it fits more precisely into my Gaggia classic portafilter. I used to have to be careful at the edges and try to press it evenly. But now I just set the tamper in and it already covers the full surface area of my coffee. This makes me feel comfort and joy at the sheer perfection of this fit. Impressive is the nature of the construction of this tamper. The black part is metal too and blends seamlessly into the silver part. Or perhaps that is all one piece. From the photo, I thought the black part might be a separate handle. The tool is made very well and brings something special to the experience. I wish I had gotten this years ago.

Beautifully crafted and ergonomic, the LuxHaus tamper may seem pricey but this is a very small expense for something that will protect your hands and wrists and ensure consistent and top notch shot quality in the right hands. It’s a perfect weight and fits comfortably in the hand. I absolutely love this product and would be confident purchasing another tone of their products. Comes in a beautiful box and red velvet bag to store it in. You won’t be disappointed, and you will see how much of a difference a tamper can make especially when compared to a plastic one that is cheaply made and doesn’t hold the right amount of weight for the perfect shot. I’m very happy with my purchase and recommend this tamper to my friends who come over when I’m serving up delicious brunch and espresso drinks!!

Very nice tamper in a nice velvet storage bag but do wish it was 58.5mm so it fit edge to edge in my Gaggia's baskets. In the end that was my fault for buying it via Wirecutter recommendation without checking the details.

I am very impressed with the build quality of this tamper. I don't think you can do much better than that in terms of the function, at any price. The only valid argument to pay more for a tamper is because you want a statement piece, a tamper with superior aesthetics for a gift, decoration, etc. Or maybe you absolutely want a non-flat base. The tamper actually looks very good and feels very good in hand. It has the right weight and is extremely easy to clean. It feels very solid so I have no doubt it will last a very long time. At this price it's just a no-brainer. It feels much more expensive than it's actual price. There is even a great attention to detail in the packaging which is impressive, with a box that is closed with magnets and has a cut-to-fit foam interior to protect the tamper. A carrying pouch is also included and the seller throws a free downloadable barista manual on top of that. Did I also mention that the seller provides top-notch service? Definitely worth every penny.
