Slower start than normal
This one took a few chapters to get into for me, but then as usual, I couldn't put it down. Another brilliant read by Danielle Steel!

An Enchanting novel
I had somehow missed reading The Waiter but it was in my queue (library). It was a delight to read and Ms. Steel's characters became perfectly alive in my mind. I'm so glad I read this book. Kudos!

The Butler
Danielle Steel my go to author. I had read several books that were disappointing recently, one , I just put down.So my next stop is always Ms. Steel knowing I will always enjoy. The butler as the text mentions throughout the book is no Carson(Downton Abbey). That references that the stories Butler is Tall, Blond and quite attractive. His clothes are not only beautifully cared for but perfectly designed for him. Excellent manners and style.Yes, of course, this is Danielle Steel there must be a BUT. He has a twin brother who is the opposite in all respects including running from the law while working for a drug cartel. There must be a Woman in the picture and she hires our Butler and things progress from there.I loved it and devoured it in a day.The title while descriptive once the story is read is a bit misleading.

More women's fiction than normal but I enjoyed it
This unlikely pair won me over! Danielle Steel can always be counted on to delve right into the heart of a character and with her signature ease of prose, she hooks her reader with the character's storyline early and unravels their life right before our eyes. I highly enjoyed Joachim and Olivia!Joachim is a gentle soul and very likable from the start. We learn the path he chose in life and watch him mature and settle into a career he loves only to have an upheaval come about that allows him to return to his homeland for the first time in multiple decades and reconnect with a past he previously only skimmed the surface of.Olivia is at a crossroad in life and showcases her fortitude quickly when she sets out on a solitary journey of enlightenment.I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a women's fiction novel that brings two characters to a turning point in life and watches as they reevaluate and connect to prosper in something new.

Great plot idea but too much explaining
I am into historical fiction novels with some romance. I haven’t read Danielle Steel in years and the title The Butler captured my interest. I am a huge Downtown Abbey fan. There is an interesting plot with twin brothers. One of which becomes the main character- the Butler- the good guy. His twin brother is a schmuck. The author goes for several pages in the beginning to tell us why the mean twin is a loser when a few well crafted paragraphs would suffice. This goes on over and over in the book for the female lead in the book as well. There is repetition about facts we already know. The author explains over and over why the characters are motivated to act and think. Give us readers more credit to draw conclusions. It’s like going to a social gathering with the family member who never stops talking to even ask how you are and wants to talk about their illnesses. You want to find a way to exit that person’s orbit. I kept speed reading through pages to get to plot. It gets 3 stars because there is a decent plot line that kept me reading. So much more could have been done to fill out the plot if a page minimum was necessary. It was like a typical Hallmark movie - she had a circumstance toward the end that throws a bump in the road and saved the romance for the last page. If I were her editor I would have slashed half the sentences in the book - repetition of known concepts, and asked her to add more plot and romance sooner in the book.

End was not convincing
Joaqim left Olivia so as not to pose any danger to her but at the end they came together. Not very convincing end of the story.
