Elegantly designed and beautifully illustrated book.
This is a lovely and beautifully designed and constructed small hardcover book filled with color illustrations and it even has a ribbon place marker. The quality is remarkable for the price. It provides a simple version of the life and work of Maria Sibylla Merian. Many of the illustrations are very small and it is a good idea to keep a magnifying glass handy. The writing is quite awkward and there are annoying grammar errors. I attribute this to the fact that it is a poor translation from the original, which was in German. I gave it four stars rather than five because of this. I do however, highly recommend the book because of the beauty of the book itself. One can go to other, more scholarly books, for a better overview of Marian's work and life.

Sweet little book and lovely images of Merian's work
Sweet little book and lovely images of Merian's work. Good historical account. However, I found the tone at times to be paternal and condescending, especially at the beginning of the book.

A Great Introduction to a Painter, Scientist, and Explorer
A concise narrative of the life of an amazing artist and scientist, beautifully illustrated, mostly with Merian's work. This is not as extensive as Kim Todd's also wonderful book on Maria Sibyllla Merian, but could serve as an introduction for those who don't ask for quite as much information about the artist/scientist and her time. This book gives a good overview with enough detail to pull us in and admire, as the author also seems charmed, respectful, and engaged.

A little disappointed with this book
A little disappointed with this book, as it's a small format. Perhaps only 10-12 cm high, and I was expecting something larger. But otherwise content is very good.

Journey to the Wonderful Nature.
A great book on the Earth's beautiful specis Butterfly. Its a wonder journey of a Lady of 18th Century to a distant Island spending years to observe the Butterflies. The Drawings are unique wonders of Science. The making of the Book as a Hardbound is very nice and make it as a Jewel in our Home Library. A great gift book to kids and young.
