Healing Lyme: Natural Healing and Prevention of Lyme Borreliosis and Its Coinfections

These herbal recommendations helped many patients
Healing Lyme is easily the best discussion of herbal Lyme treatment, which I have found. Desperation Medicine by Ritchie Shoemaker, is an easier read, since it contains numerous case histories, but the well researched discussions of volumes of peer reviewed scientific herbal treatment research make this book more useful for treatment of chronic Lyme disease. In reality, over ninety percent of Lyme Disease sufferers will not learn they have Lyme Disease, within the first 30 days of infection, when published research reveals antibiotic treatment is 90 percent effective. The herbal Lyme treatments, described by Buhner are far more gentle and effective for the majority of Lyme Disease sufferers than the conventional prescription antibiotics. Many patients suffering from Lyme Disease, Bartonella, Babesia and Ehrlichia, have benefitted from some of the herbs discussed by Buhner.Source Naturals Resveratrol is especially effective for reducing MMP 9 to levels, below 300. I have also seen Polygonum cuspidatum decrease excessive VEGF levels.Cats Claw has been very helpful for Lyme and rheumatism patients and I have seen it increase deficient White Blood Cell counts.Andrographis paniculata has produced dieoffs, in some patients, who had already been treated with oral antibiotic protocols and Dr. Zhang's Chinese Lymes Herbal protocol. Andrographis can kill spirochetes, without the side effects caused by prescription Doxycycline. A Mycoplasma patient also experienced a dieoff with Andrographis.I feel Buhner's herbal protocols are more effective than Dr. Zhang's Chinese Medicine protocols. An important Lyme herbal left out of this book is Cumanda. Another important treatment left out is AHCC, Active Hexose Correlated Coumpound, a maitake mushroom extract, which can double or triple Natural Killer Cell levels. Readers interested in herbal Lyme treatment should consider adding Cumanda and AHCC to their Lyme treatment regimen.Intravenous Vitamin C seems to be well tolerated, by many Lyme patients, unlike many prescription antibiotics, which tend to cause systemic fungal overgrowth and digestive discomfort. Intravenous vitamin C appears to be a more effective, gentle Lyme Disease, Babesia and West Nile Virus treatment, than the herbal or oral prescription medications.Information in Healing Lyme can improve liver detox treatment, especially elevated bilirubin treatment. Hepatitis patients would also benefit from many of the herbals in this book, especially Smilax.Healing Lyme is well organized by symptom and herb and extremely well documented, with published research. Some clinical results discussed in the research appear too fantastic to be true, but ordering the actual study or reading the Pubmed abstract reveals the results were published, in peer reviewed scientific journals.Although this book is titled Healing Lyme, it also contains useful treatments for Babesia, Bartonella and Ehrlichia. Many of the herbals can also increase white cell, natural killer cell, lymphocyte, T4 helper cell, interleukin 2, 6 or 10, and are useful in increasing or decreasing unbalanced portions of the immune system. Adjusting the immune system is crucial to successfully treating these tick borne diseases and often necessary to detect these diseases, with serum tests presently available.Stephen Buhner is a genius. Healing Lyme would be a bargain at ten times the price, although it is difficult to read, due to the incredible volume of detailed biochemical and immunological information. Buying even one of the journal articles discussed in this book, would cost more than the entire cost of this book, which obviously reviews hundreds of published peer reviewed articles.BTW, I am not a Doctor, and have attempted to email Stephen Buhner's website, where this review was uploaded, by someone else.Steven Sponaugle

May have saved my life.
I was unexplicably sick for about 17 years. What was easily overcome in my mid 20's became harder in my thirties and by the time I hit my 40's I was sure I was dying. I saw over 37 specialist, closed down my business, ended up at the Mayo Clinic where once again I was told there was nothing wrong with me. I suffered from severe gastro-intestinal issues every night, deep joint pain, blurry vision, hundreds of floaters, tremors, vertigo, skin rashes, insomnia and blindness in one eye and the most horrible headaches EVERYDAY.A little over a year ago, my eldest daughter commented to me that she was reading about Lyme disease and that because of my symptoms, she thought I may have it. My husband began to read about it and he also agreed that Lyme might be the culprit of my severe decline. We thought that now that we had an answer all we had to do was find a specialist and voila! problem fixed. Well, little did we know that we were in for a roller coaster ride! I came to likened finding a Lyme specialist to finding an abortion doctor in the 1940's. I tried for a year to find a doctor to help me and the only ones I found were alternative doctors that did not accept insurance and prohibitably expensive.I read blog after blog (with my one eye...lol) and one day I came across the name Buhner. I consider that day the first day of my path to recovery. I ordered the book and it took me a week to read it, a few weeks to gather all the herbs recommended and another few weeks to begin seeing results. I am now feeling better than I have for years! The protocol ingredients are easy to find, some of them expensive and can be hard to stick to because of the sheer number of pills and teas and tinctures. But if you want to beat this disease you have to. I found this book to be the ONLY thing that has helped me.I Purchased a screw bin at Lowe's and organized all the supplements, pills and homemade pills by waking, morning, lunch, dinner and bedtime. Regular pill organizers are not large enough, so don't waste your money.I have read the book 2-3 times (Lyme makes you forgetful) and I take notes, I understand lymes better, I am more understanding of myself too. The headaches are almost gone except for one, once a month or so. No more midnight diarreah, the floaters are almost gone as well as the vertigo and most of the other symptoms that plagued my daily life. I think that following his protocol allowed me to eventually have the clarity of mind to finally find a wonderful Lyme Doctor. I created an excel spreadsheet to organize the herbs and suplements by groups so I can easily refill my pill dispenser. And I will finally begin my round of antibiotics. It has been a long journey. It has been a hard journey. I am thankful for Mr. Buhner, for writing this book, for taking the time to explain to me what 37 doctors did not know, for helping me gain some clarity at time of profound sadness and darness in my life. And mostly for saying oh, and by the way, you'll need some antibiotics too.

Healing Lyme
If you are in any doubt as to whether you have Lyme Disease please give this book a chance. I got a typical Lyme (red bull's eye) rash two years ago, had a course of antibiotics and was told I tested negative for it. Since then I have had mild to medium symptoms which I thought might be Lyme but was told they were not as subsequent tests also proved negative. In November 2014 I was struck down with a mystery virus which really put my life on hold as it was so debilitating. Six months later I was barely any better, and a neurologist simply referred me to a psychologist with a view to helping me adjust to the limitations of a chronic fatigue state. With nothing to lose (and a gut feeling that Lyme disease was the root cause) I decided to do my own research. Apparently Lyme Disease tests in the Uk can be very inaccurate and many people are using a German lab which can more accurately diagnose. Not wanting to spend £500+ on this to confirm what I strongly suspect anyway, I bought this book. It seemed many people were using anti-microbial herbs to cure Lyme and I figured the herbs couldn't hurt even if they didn't help. just one week later, having followed the 'core protocol' in this book I am feeling well enough to have been inspired to write this review. As the herb treatment has already been so effective I can only conclude that I do indeed have Lyme/co-infection. I have more energy, can cope with going out and have far less pain. There might be some people who think this sounds like it's all in my head but if you are in a chronic fatigue state yourself, then you know how real and unpleasant it is. This book is genuinely changing my life. Some of the reviews suggest it's too highbrow, but I think it strikes a good balance as it's aimed at medical professionals and laymen. Some of it is complex due to the nature of the way Lyme parasites affect the body but you don't have to read it all - but make sure you read the bit about herb dosages carefully. Just to add that I do have a fantastic and supportive doctor - she just doesn't know much about Lyme. Hope this review helps anyone else who is unsure.

This is an excellent book, well presented and researched. Although I am trained in Herbal Medicine myself I found this book extremely helpful in enabling my self treatment of Lyme Disease. I would recommend this book to anyone affected by the disease.

Helpful information presented understandably
Very interesting. The author suggests that if you find parts too technical, then skip them. The parts that ordinary people can understand are filled with useful and interesting information. When he suggests natural alternatives, he goes into dosages, where the plant is found, how long it's been used for healing, what it's been used for, problems to look out for and so on. He even tells of plants that are being harvested too intensely and thus becoming endangered and what to look for when you buy them so as to be assured you are not being part of the problem.
